NEW YORK (May 4, 2023) – For a record third straight year, Xavier’s Emma McMyler has been named BIG EAST Player of the Year in women’s golf. Xavier’s Madison Reemsnyder has been voted BIG EAST Freshman of the Year. McMyler and Reemsnyder also are included in a seven-member All-BIG EAST Team. The selections were made by the league’s head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players. McMyler received all five possible votes for Player of the Year.
The Xavier coaching staff, which includes head coach Breanna Jenco and assistant coach David Patz, was chosen BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year. Jenco is in her eighth year as head coach. Two weeks ago at Riverton Pointe Country Club in Hardeeville, S.C., Xavier won its fourth straight BIG EAST Championship and earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The Musketeers will participate in the NCAA Championship Regional in Westfield, Ind., May 8-10.
In addition to McMyler and Reemsnyder, the All-BIG EAST Team includes: Katherine Lemke and Eleanor Hudepohl of Creighton, Megan Gormley and Gabriella Gilrowski of Georgetown and Kara Carter of Xavier.
McMyler has been the highest ranked golfer by GolfStat.com throughout 2022-23 and she has posted a 72.07 score average, the only BIG EAST golfer under 73. A native of San Antonio, Texas, McMyler tied with Reemsnyder for fourth place at the BIG EAST Championship. McMyler led all BIG EAST golfers with four tournament first-place finishes – the Jennifer Duke Invitational, Charlotte Invitational, Rio Verde Invitational and Chattanooga Classic. She finished in the top 10 in eight of her nine events throughout the year.
Reemsnyder, who is from Canton, Ohio, was an immediate contributor in her rookie year. She started her career with a sixth-place finish in the Jennifer Duke. She had a third place finish at Rio Verde and her fourth-place result at the BIG EAST Championship. She compiled a 74.11 average score.
Creighton’s Lemke, the individual winner at the BIG EAST Championship carding a 3-over 219, became the first BIG EAST women’s golfer to take medalist honors in consecutive years. She earned the league’s automatic individual bid to the NCAA Championship. Lemke will play at the Regional which will be played in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., May 8-10. A sophomore from Geneva, Ill., Lemke has 10 career top-5 finishes in 22 tournaments. Her 67 in the second round of the BIG EAST Championship set a school record and tied the BIG EAST mark.
Hudepohl, also a sophomore, already has eight top-5 finishes in 20 career tournaments. This year, the native of Cincinnati, Ohio, finished 13
th or better in 9-of-10 tournaments this year, including the last eight in a row. Hudepohl has an average score of 75.17 with Lemke at 75.24. Hudepohl’s scoring average is the best by a Bluejay in the last 20 years.
Georgetown’s Gilrowski and Gormley, a pair of juniors, helped their Hoya team to a runner-up finish at the BIG EAST Championship. Gilrowski also finished second individually at the Championship, two strokes behind Creighton’s Lemke. Gilrowski, who hails from Westfield, Ind., compiled a 73.07 stroke average for the year, which included nine rounds under par. She earned medalist honors at the Pirate Collegiate Classic.
Gormley is a repeat All-BIG EAST Selection. This year, the native of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., tied for ninth place at the BIG EAST Championship and posted a 73.23 stroke average for the year. In the final regular-season tournament, Gormley tied for second at the Lady Bison Invitational. Gormley finished among the top 10 as an individual in 7-of-10 tournaments this season.
Xavier’s Carter earned All-BIG EAST accolades for a second straight year. She took sixth place at this year’s BIG EAST Championship and ranked third on the team in overall stroke average at 74.56 behind McMyler and Reemsnyder. A sophomore from Kingsport, Tenn., Carter registered three top-10 finishes.
