BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Brooklyn Merl, Marquette, Grad, F (Cologne, Germany)
Leading the offensive attack for Marquette, forward Brooklyn Merl tied for the league-high with six points in a pair of wins for the Golden Eagles. Trailing 2-1 in the season opener against Drake on Thursday, Merl broke through the Bulldogs’ backline off an assist from Mitar Mitrovic to punch in the equalizer in an eventual 3-2 win. On Sunday, the native of Cologne, Germany, stuffed the stat sheet with a goal and a pair of assists to lead Marquette to a 3-0 home win over Purdue Fort-Wayne. Merl opened the game with an assist just two minutes into the second half, before finding the back of the net in the 56th minute, extending the lead to two. Three minutes later, he connected with Mitar Mitrovic for the Golden Eagles’ third goal of the game.

BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Mats Roorda, Seton Hall, Gr., GK (Groningen, Netherlands)
Mats Roorda recorded a pair of shutouts to begin his Seton Hall career in wins over Rider and Air Force this past week. Late in the first half against Rider, Roorda was forced to make a diving save to keep the Pirates' lead intact at 1-0. On Sunday against Air Force, Roorda threw his gloves up in time to stop a blistering shot from the top of the box, soon after the Pirates opened the scoring with two goals in quick succession. Led by Roorda, the Pirates have opened the season with back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2005.
