NEW YORK – Kellen Dean of Xavier and Marta Aguilar of Seton Hall, a pair of freshmen, have earned BIG EAST weekly golf honors. Dean captured medalist honors at the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational and Aguilar was a co-champion at the UAlbany Great Danes Invitational.

Dean took home medalist honors at the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kan. The freshman posted a 54-hole score of 209 (-7). The Xavier squad placed third in a 14-team field with a score of 869 (+5). Dean defeated Oklahoma State’s Johnnie Clark by one stroke. There were 84 golfers competing.
 
BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Marta Aguilar, Seton Hall, Fr.
In only her third collegiate tournament, Aguilar claimed the individual co-championship and helped lift the Pirates to the team crown at the UAlbany Great Danes Invitational. She started the final day three strokes behind two individual leaders, but made two birdies, 10 pars and one eagle to fuel a 1-over 71. She had a 74 in the first round to finish with a 145. She tied Boston U.’s Christy Chen for the title. The Pirate team finished at 601 (+41).
 
Men’s Notes – Creighton junior Grant Feldman tied for fourth place at the Throwdown Up Top at Landmand. After shooting even-par 73 in the first round, Feldman was tied for 13^th place after 36 holes after a second-round 75. He shot a 2-over par on the front nine in the finale before five birdies and an eagle saw him shoot a 7-under 30 coming in. His 216 (73-75-68) secured his fifth top-10 finish in the past two years…Xavier junior Zach Burton placed first in The Indy at Forest Hills in Richmond, Ind. He shot an 8-under 132 for the 36-hole event. He won by four strokes, beating Sam McWilliams of IUIndy.
 
Women’s Notes – Butler finished second at the Loyola Parkinson Invitational with a team score of 891 (+27). Illinois State won the event by 13 strokes. Treva Dodd finished second individually with a even-par 216, just one shot off the pace behind medalist Katie Ruge of Omaha. In the third round, Dodd birdied four of the final eight holes to shoot 69…Creighton also competed at the Loyola Parkinson Family Invitational. Freshman Julia Karmazin tied for 28^th place to help the Bluejays to a 13^th place team finish She had her third consecutive top-30 finish with rounds of 76, 77 and 77 for a 230…St. John’s competed with Seton Hall at the UAlbany Great Danes Invitational. The Red Storm tied for fifth. Xuan Khue Minh Doan and Karen Beglin posted top-six finishes. Minh Doan finished 9-over 149 to tie for fourth. Beglin was sixth with a 10-over 150…Xavier freshman Isabel Brozena helped the Musketeers place eighth in a field of 15 teams at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate at the University of Denver Golf Club at Highlands Ranch in Denver, Colo. Brozena tied for 15^th place with a 1-over 215 in a field of 81 golfers. The Xavier team score was 873 (+9).
