MBB Minute – Xavier and Georgetown enjoyed Wednesday wins while St. John’s and Seton Hall are off to in-season tournaments Thursday.
Xavier ended its five-game homestand unbeaten after an 80-55 victory over Siena. Four Musketeers reached double figures led by Ryan Conwell’s 16 points. He is the team’s top scorer, averaging 18.2 points. The Indiana State transfer has reached double digits in scoring in all five games. Xavier plays South Carolina on Monday in the Fort Myers Tip-Off.
Georgetown also placed four players in double figures in its 79-51 win against visiting Mount St. Mary’s. Jayden Epps scored a game-high 19 points and freshman Thomas Sorber registered his second double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. The Hoyas (3-1) host St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday.
BIG EAST teams are 7-0 this week and 43-7 (.860) overall going into Thursday.
Seton Hall starts play in the Charleston Classic against unbeaten VCU at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN2. The Pirates (2-2) lead the nation in scoring defense, allowing opponents only 46.8 ppg. The Hall will meet Nevada or Vanderbilt in the second round on Friday.
At the Baha Mar Hoops Championship in the Bahamas, No. 22
St. John’s meets No. 13 Baylor at 7 p.m. on CBSSN. RJ Luis Jr. has been a leader for the Red Storm (4-0), averaging 17.5 points and 7.8 rebounds. St. John’s will play Virginia or Tennessee on Friday.
