BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Nigel Griffith, St. John’s, Sr., F (Stroudsburg, Pa.)
Griffith led the St. John’s offense past Georgetown with a brace in Saturday's 2-0 victory. Playing just 36 minutes in reserve, the Johnnies' striker scored both of his goals in a span of 2:13. After firing home a penalty kick in the 55th minute, Griffith tapped home his second goal on a direct pass from Augustine Boadi in the 57th minute. The win locked up a share of the East Division Crown and the No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Championship Presented by Jeep.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Julian Jakopovic, St. John’s, Jr., D (Stuttgart, Germany)
Jakopovic logged his 16th match of the season with 90 minutes played in the Johnnies' win over Georgetown. The junior defender provided the secondary assist on Nigel Griffith's second goal after lacing a stretch pass to a streaking Augustine Boadi, who made the final feed for the tally. Jakopovic was also instrumental to holding Georgetown without a shot and a corner kick for the first 47 minutes of the game.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Lukas Burns, Providence, Gr., GK (Cinnaminson, N.J.)
For the second consecutive game, Burns collected a shutout victory in net to improve to 10-4-3 on the season and six shutouts on the year. The graduate goalkeeper corralled five saves in a crucial 1-0 win over Xavier in the regular season finale, to lead the Friars to a share of the East Division crown and the No. 2 seed in the tournament. Overall, he has 50 saves and a 0.758 save percentage in 2024.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Luca Iaccino, DePaul, Fr., F (Rolling Meadows, Ill.)
Iaccino scored the game-winner in a 5-3 victory over Butler for the first goal of his collegiate career. The win earned DePaul the No. 8 seed in the tournament, the first BIG EAST postseason berth for the Blue Demons since 2016.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Jonas Buechte, Akron, Sr., D (Rantigen, Germany)
Buechte helped lead the defensive effort for the Zips in a 0-0 draw at UConn on Saturday. Akron posted its fourth consecutive shutout and sixth of the league campaign (eighth overall) as the Zips limited the Huskies to eight shots in the contest, including zero on goal.
Palmer Ault, Butler, Jr., F (Noblesville, Ind.)
Ault tallied a brace and collected an assist to play a factor in all three goals by Butler in a 5-3 setback against DePaul.
Guillaume Vacter, UConn, Gr., D (Paris, France)
Vacter and the UConn defense secured a shutout draw against Akron on Saturday, a Zips team that entered the tilt with 33 goals over a nine-game winning streak. The Huskies limited Akron to just four shots and one shot on goal.
Jackson Castro, Creighton, Sr., M (Plano, Texas)
Castro continued his scoring hot streak with two goals in the regular season finale at Marquette, helping the Bluejays earn a 5-2 victory. Jackson has five goals in his last four matches, giving him nine this season.
Noeh Hernandez, DePaul, So., M (Bridgeview, Ill.
Hernandez pushed his point total to 25 on the season with a four-point effort to lead the Blue Demons past Butler to lock up a tournament position. The sophomore midfielder buried a penalty kick and dished out a pair of assists.
