MBB Minute – The BIG EAST Saturday slate has six contests, including three local rivalries and two Big 12-BIG EAST Battle games. In the lone contest on Friday, Georgetown lost at West Virginia in a Big 12-BIG EAST Battle meeting.
The Hoyas (7-2) couldn’t contain a second-half surge from the Mountaineers and fell 73-60 at WVU Coliseum on Friday night. Jayden Epps led Georgetown with 17 points on six made field goals, including a trio of 3-pointers. Thomas Sorber chipped in 13 points and Malik Mack added 10 points.
The day starts early with a Big 12-BIG EAST contest.
St. John’s hosts Kansas State at 11:30 a.m. ET on FOX. St. John’s will honor the life and legacy of the late Lou Carnesecca throughout the game.
At noon,
Providence and Rhode Island will meet for the 134
th time. The game will be played at Rhode Island’s Ryan Center on CBSSN at noon. PC has won 11 of the last 13 meetings.
The other in-state rivalry tips at 1:30 p.m. on FOX when No. 5
Marquette hosts No. 11 Wisconsin. The teams will be meeting for the 131
st time. The last time both teams were ranked going the game was 2011-12.
Coming off a victory against No. 1 Kansas on Wednesday,
Creighton hosts UNLV at 4 p.m. on FS1 in its final non-conference game of the season.
The third local rivalry game has
Villanova meeting Temple at 4:30 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center in a Philadelphia Big 5 Classic game. NBC-Phila.+ will televise. The Wildcats are coming off Tuesday’s 76-63 win over No. 14 Cincinnati.
Butler returns to the city of Houston for the first time since the 2011 Final Four and will take on No. 17 Houston. The Bulldogs rank fifth nationally in field goal percentage defense at 36.1 percent.
BIG EAST teams are 70-26 (.729) going into Saturday.
