UConn, Marquette Split #BIGEASTwlax Weekly Awards

BIG EAST Attacker of the Week
Meg Bireley, Marquette, Jr., A
Bireley put together multiple standout performances for Marquette last week, stuffing the stat sheet over two contests. In the Golden Eagles’ resounding 19-7 victory over Detroit Mercy on Wednesday, Bireley tallied a game-high six points, with four goals and two assists, while tying career-highs in ground balls (4) and caused turnovers (3). She then followed that up with a career-high eight points in a close loss to Niagara on Sunday, scoring seven goals and dishing out an assist.
 
BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week
Josie Kropp, Marquette, Jr., M
Kropp made her impact felt in the circle for Marquette across two games this past week. The junior midfielder tied a program single-game high with 17 draw controls in the Golden Eagles’ 19-7 win at Detroit Mercy on Wednesday. She also posted 15 draw controls in their next matchup against Niagara on Sunday. Kropp is now up to 48 draw controls for the season, the third-most in the nation, while her 8.00 draw controls per game ranks 10th nationally.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Landyn White, Connecticut, Gr., GK
A unanimous Preseason All-BIG EAST Team selection, White helped limit New Hampshire to five goals in UConn’s commanding 17-5 win on Wednesday. The graduate keeper recorded nine saves while allowing just four goals to earn the Huskies earn their first win of the season.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Abby Beran, Connecticut, Fr., D
Beran helped the Huskies nab their first win of the season in a 17-5 victory over New Hampshire on Wednesday. The first-year defender posted a career-best two ground balls, while earning two draw controls and forcing a caused turnover in the matchup.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Kate Shaffer, Connecticut, Gr., A – recorded a game-high five goals on nine shots along with an assist to power UConn to a 17-5 win over New Hampshire on Wednesday
Julia Gilbert, Denver, Gr., A – tallied four goals, one assist, and two draw controls against No. 9 Maryland in a close loss on Saturday
Lola Mancuso, Xavier, So., A – following consecutive Midfielder of the Week honors the sophomore scored four goals, while recording four caused turnovers, three ground balls, two draw controls, and one assist in Xavier’s one-score loss to Akron on Saturday
