Three Schools Receive Final #BIGEASTwlax Weekly Awards

BIG EAST Attacker of the Week
Lauren Black, Denver, Jr., A
Black capped off an excellent season with fireworks in Denver’s 12-11 upset victory over No. 8 Yale on Monday. The junior had already put together an impressive stat line heading into the game’s final seconds with the score tied, but added an exclamation with a game-winning buzzer beater goal to secure the win. It was her fifth score of the game to go along with three assists and a ground ball for a career-best eight-point performance. For Black, it was her fifth game-winning goal of the season, the most in the BIG EAST.
 
BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week
Mary Moore, Villanova, Fr., M
Moore played a crucial role in Villanova’s 17-14 win over Marquette on Saturday to secure the final spot in the upcoming BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The freshman phenom had a career performance, tallying a career-high seven points on four goals and a career-high three assists in the pivotal matchup. She also tied her career-best with five draw controls while adding a ground ball.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Landyn White, Connecticut, Gr., GK
For the third time this season White earns Defensive Player of the Week honors following a spectacular performance between the pipes in UConn’s 9-8 win over Georgetown on Saturday. The graduate keeper was fantastic in the fight for the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Championship, totaling 11 saves to just eight goals allowed. She also added two ground balls. White’s efforts capped off another impressive regular season, as she led the conference in save percentage (.487) and ground balls per game (2.81).
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Emma Verhoest, Villanova, Fr., DS
Verhoest was highly effective in the draw circle in Villanova’s key 17-14 victory over Marquette on Saturday. The freshman draw specialist recorded 10 draw controls, her fourth game this season with double-digit controls. She finishes the regular season second in the BIG EAST with 6.53 draw controls per game, totaling 98 draw controls across 15 games played.

Bryn McCaughey, Denver, Sr., D caused a season-high four turnovers and picked up four ground balls in Denver’s 12-11 win over No. 8 Yale on Monday
Meg Bireley, Marquette, Jr., A – netted six goals along with an assist and a draw control in a close loss to Villanova on Saturday; finishes the regular season fourth in the nation with 69 goals scored
Sami Carey, Villanova, Jr., A – tallied a career-high 10 points with two goals and a career-best eight assists in Villanova’s 17-14 victory over Marquette on Saturday; her eight helpers are the top single-game mark in the BIG EAST this year
