BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Mitchell Dryden, Marquette, Jr., M (Whitefish Bay, Wis.)
Leading all BIG EAST scorers through the opening weekend, Dryden tallied a trio of goals and dished out an assist to lead the Golden Eagles to a perfect 2-0 week. In the season opening 2-0 win over Drexel, Dryden put the game away with his first goal in a Marquette uniform. The junior transfer followed it up with a brace and an assist in a 6-1 victory over Marist on Sunday.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Agustin Resch, Seton Hall, Jr., D (Arata, Argentina)
Resch anchored the Seton Hall defense Thursday night to a shutout victory on the road against FIU. The Pirates’ back line limited the Panthers to just three shots on goal. Resch also made a difference on the offensive side of the pitch, scoring the lone goal of the match, a header off a set piece corner kick, in the 60
th minute. The 1-0 victory helped the Pirates remain unbeaten in season-opening matches under head coach Andreas Lindenberg (5-0-2).
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Marten Brink, Marquette, Fr., GK (Stukenbrock, Germany)
Making his collegiate debut Thursday night, Brink led Marquette with a stellar six save shut out performance. On Sunday, the freshman collected three saves in a 6-1 triumph, with the lone goal registered on a penalty kick. Overall, Brink led all BIG EAST goalies with nine saves over the weekend, while facing 20 shots in 180 minutes of action.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Gavrilo Civric, Creighton, Fr., F (Belgrade, Serbia)
Inserted into the starting unit at halftime against Drake on Sunday, Civric lifted the Bluejays from down 2-1 to leading 3-2 with a pair of goals in less than five minutes. Civric began the half by converting a penalty kick in the 47th minute, then stole a crossing pass on the offensive end for an unassisted goal in the 49th minute.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Josemir Gomez, Butler, Jr., F (Indianapolis, Ind.)
Gomez scored two goals on four shots over the weekend. He tallied the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Southern Indiana on Thursday, as well as the game-tying goal in a 1-1 draw with Western Illinois on Sunday.
Marco Valentic, UConn, Jr., M (Kirtland, Ohio)
Valentic led the UConn offensive attack in a dominating 6-0 win over Stonehill, scoring a pair of goals in just 42 minutes.
Mitchell Baker, Georgetown, Fr., F (Melbourne, Australia)
In a 2-0 road win against Maryland, Baker lit up the stat sheet with a pair of first half goals to secure Georgetown’s first triumph of the season.
Pepe Lora, Providence, Grad., F (Madrid, Spain)
A graduate transfer, Lora made the most of his Providence debut to lead the Friars past Quinnipiac, 2-0, in the season opener on Thursday. Lora capped the night with two goals and three shots on target.
Jonny Mennell, Xavier, Jr., GK (Asheville, N.C.)
Mennell posted a shutout and corralled eight saves in a 1-0-1 week for the Musketeers. In Thursday’s 0-0 draw with Northern Kentucky, the junior earned a shutout and made a save. He followed it up with seven saves in a 6-1 win over Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.
