Three Teams Split #BEsoccer Weekly Accolades

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Emil Jaaskelainen, Akron, R-Sr., F (Bolton, England)
Jaaskelainen continued his dominant run of play this past week leading the Zips in goals (3), points (8), shots (7) and shots on goal (4). He capped his week recording an assist on Malik Henry’s game-winner in the 52nd minute in a 1-0 victory at Georgetown. It marked Akron’s first-ever BIG EAST road win. On the strength of a game-high five shots (four on goal), Jaaskelainen opened the week registering his third multi-goal game of the season and first hat trick as a Zip with a three-goal effort in a win over Saint Francis on Tuesday. He tallied the game-winning goal in the fifth minute before adding tallies in the 24th and 56th minutes, respectively. Additionally, he garnered an assist on Remi Agunbiade’s goal in the 32nd minute. On the season, he owns league-high marks in goals (8), and points (22), in addition to be tied for the lead in assists (6).
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Liam Guske, Seton Hall, Jr., D (St. John’s, Fla.)
Anchoring the Seton Hall defense to a 1-0-1 week and pair of shutouts, Guske saw 163 minutes on the backline. In Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Lehigh, Guske and the Pirate defense limited the Mountain Hawks to just one shot on goal. Going the distance in Saturday’s top-25 conference showdown against No. 24 UConn, the Seton Hall defense once again only allowed one shot on goal in a 0-0 draw. Overall, the Pirates allowed just eight shots in total over the week, with two on net.
 
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Mitch Budler, Akron, R-Jr., GK (Lincoln, Neb.)
Budler was outstanding in net for the Zips this past week posting a pair of shutouts, while recording eight saves, including six, in Akron’s 1-0 win at Georgetown on Saturday. Facing 25 shots on the week, including 10 on goal, Budler didn’t concede a goal en route to posting a pair of clean sheets. He opened the week collecting a pair of saves in an Akron victory past Saint Francis on Tuesday. Budler was even more impressive against the Hoyas posting six saves, including a pair of diving game-saving stops in the second half to preserve the Zips’ victory. The Zips handed the Hoyas their first shutout loss since the 2018 campaign versus St. John’s (1-0).

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Max Kerkvliet, UConn, R-Fr., GK (Houston, Texas)
Kerkvliet recorded two shutouts this week in between the sticks for the Huskies. Kerkvliet made one save in Tuesday’s tie against Fairfield and five saves in a 0-0 draw against No. 15 Seton Hall on Saturday. The redshirt freshman now has four shutouts through the first nine games of his collegiate career.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Santiago Davila, DePaul, Sr., GK (Wauwatosa, Wis.)
Davila posted 13 saves in a 1-0-1 weekend for the Blue Demons, including a career-high nine saves in Tuesday’s win over Loyola Chicago. On Saturday against Xavier, he earned the first shutout of his career, while corralling four saves.
 
Noeh Hernandez, DePaul, So., M (Bridgeview, Ill.)
Hernandez was instrumental in Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Loyola Chicago, adding a goal and an assist in the triumph.
 
Marten Brink, Marquette, Fr., GK (Stukenbrock, Germany)
Brink posted three saves in a 2-0 shutout victory over Butler on Saturday, as the Golden Eagles improved to 2-0 in BIG EAST play.
 
Bruno Rosa, Providence, Jr., F (Cascais, Portugal)
Led the Friars with five points in a 1-0-1 week, tallying an assist against Brown on Tuesday, before posting a brace in a comeback 2-2 draw against Creighton on Saturday.

Jonny Mennell, Xavier, Jr., GK (Asheville, N.C.)
Collected two shutouts, leading Xavier to a 2-0 win over Evansville on Tuesday and a 0-0 draw against DePaul on Saturday. Led by Mennell, Xavier's defense has not allowed a goal in 362:47 consecutive minutes. The last time the Musketeers allowed a goal was in the 77th minute at No. 21 Ohio State on Sept. 8.
