MBB Minute – Villanova and St. John’s picked up on-campus wins on Saturday. Villanova enjoyed a comfortable margin of victory, while St. John’s needed some clutch plays down the stretch.
Villanova, which ended Wednesday’s win at Butler with a 22-1 run, opened its game against
DePaul with a 13-0 run en route to a 100-56 victory at Finneran Pavilion. Eric Dixon, the nation’s leading scorer, hit his average with 25 points. It’s his seventh straight game with 25 points or more. Jordan Longino netted a career-high 19 points. The Wildcats (10-5, 3-1 BIG EAST) have won seven of their last eight games. Jacob Meyer led the Blue Demons (9-6, 0-4) with 13 points.
St. John’s and
Butler were tied 55-55 with 5:03 to play before the Johnnies closed the contest with a 15-7 run and a 70-62 victory at Carnesecca Arena. R.J. Louis Jr. scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Kadary Richmond, who sparked the late run, finished with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. The Bulldogs (7-8, 0-4) got 17 points and eight boards from Pierre Brooks.
Sunday’s lone game has
Providence playing at No. 11
UConn in Gampel Pavilion on NBC at 2 p.m. ET. The Friars (7-7, 1-2) are playing their second straight ranked opponent after losing to No. 8 Marquette on Tuesday. The Huskies (11-3, 3-0) have won seven in a row and own a 27-game winning streak at Gampel. The game is the 81
st meeting between the schools.
