NEW YORK – Villanova forward Eric Dixon has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Georgetown forward-center Thomas Sorber has been selected BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Dixon, the nation’s leading scorer, led Villanova to a 2-0 week. Sorber earned Freshman honors for the fourth time after helping the Hoyas to a pair of wins.

Dixon averaged 26.5 points in a 2-0 week. He led a comeback 73-65 win at Butler with 28 points and followed that with a 25-point effort in a 100-56 triumph over DePaul. For the two games, he shot 51.2 percent from the field and 45.0 percent from 3-point range. The nation’s top scorer with a 25.9 scoring mark, he has scored 25 or more points in each of his last six games.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Thomas Sorber, Georgetown, F-C, Fr.
Sorber takes Freshman honors for a fourth time this season after averaging 17.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks while making 58.3 percent from the field. Sorber had 22 points in an 83-43 win against Coppin State and helped in a victory over Xavier with 12 points, five boards and two blocks. Sorber is tied for first in BIG EAST rebounding with an 8.1 mark.

Solo Ball, Connecticut, G, So. – Averaged 19.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Scored a career-high 23 points, including seven 3-pointers, in a win at DePaul (81-68).
Ryan Kalkbrenner, Creighton, C, Sr. – Averaged 16.0 points 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in a 1-1 week. Had 16 points, five boards and five blocks in a win versus St. John’s (57-56).
Malik Mack, Georgetown, G, So. – Averaged 20.5 points in a 2-0 week. Scored a game-high 26 points in a victory against Xavier (69-63).
Kam Jones, Marquette, G, Sr. – Averaged 20.0 points, 7.5 assists and 6.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Had 18 points and 10 assists in a win at Providence (78-50) and a game-high 22 points in a victory versus Creighton (79-71).
Zuby Ejiofor, St. John’s, F, Jr. – Averaged 15.3 points and 7.7 rebounds in a 2-1 week. Had 14 points and eight rebounds in a win against Butler (70-62).
