Georgetown Moved Past Providence to Reach BIG EAST Title Match

BOYDS, Md. –  The BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Championship Presented by JEEP continued Thursday night with No. 1 seed Georgetown downing No. 4 seed Providence, 2-0, in the second semifinal game. With the win, the Hoyas return to the BIG EAST title game for the ninth straight season.
 
Georgetown (11-3-4, 6-0-2 BIG EAST) got off to a blazing start, as Zach Zengue connected with Mitchell Baker on a corner kick just 3:40 into the game. The goal marked the 10th of the season for Baker and the 36th point for Zengue.
 
The Hoyas maintained that lead into the half, closing out the first 45 minutes with a slight 3-2 shot on goal advantage over the Friars (6-7-3, 4-2-2 BE).
 
Continuing to go back-and-forth, it was the Hoyas that extended their lead in the 70th minute, as Baker scored his second goal of the match off an assist by Zengue and Mateo Ponce Ocampo.
 
In goal for the Hoyas, Tenzing Manske capped the game with three saves. For the Friars, freshman Ryan Carney made five saves.
 
Up next, the Hoyas will face No. 3 seed UConn in the title match on Sunday at Noon ET on ESPN+.
