Home Teams Win All Three On Tuesday; Xavier, Marquette, UConn Victorious

MBB Minute – All three teams in the home jerseys picked up wins on Tuesday. Xavier and Marquette enjoyed comfortable margins of victory, while Connecticut had to rally from a double-digit deficit in the second half.
 
Xavier won its third in a row and ended Butler’s three-game winning streak with a 76-63 decision over the Bulldogs. The Musketeers (17-10, 9-7 BIG EAST) broke open a close game with a 22-2 run to close the first half. Xavier led by double-digits throughout the second half. Zach Freemantle and Ryan Conwell each scored 14 points. XU made 14 steals, the sixth time this season they have had 10 or more. Jahmyl Telfort netted a game-high 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Bulldogs (12-14, 5-10).
 
No. 16 Marquette was tied 7-7 with Seton Hall before outscoring the Pirates 34-12 for the remainder of the first half in an 80-56 victory. Kam Jones led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points. The Golden Eagles (20-6, 11-4) led by as many as 31 in the second half. Isaiah Coleman led the offense for the Pirates (7-19, 2-13) with 13 points.
 
For the fourth time this season UConn rallied from a 14-point deficit to grab a victory. The Huskies (18-8, 10-5) came back to beat Villanova 66-59 at XL Center. UConn closed the game with a 27-6 run that included a decisive 10-0 spurt. Liam McNeeley scored 16 of his game-high 20 points in the second half. Tarris Reed Jr. added 13 points and a game-high nine boards. Wooga Poplar paced four Wildcats (15-12, 8-8) in double figures with 19 points.
 
FS1 will telecast both games on Wednesday’s schedule. Providence travels to Georgetown for a 7 p.m. ET tipoff followed by No. 10 St. John’s at DePaul at 9 p.m.
