MBB Minute – Villanova used some hot shooting from 3-point range to build a sizable early lead and defeat No. 16 Marquette 81-66 Friday at Wells Fargo Center. The win was the Wildcats’ fourth over a ranked team this season.
Villanova (16-12, 9-8 BIG EAST) made their first four 3-point attempts and jumped to a 14-4 edge. They led 46-33 at the break and did not allow
Marquette (20-7, 11-5) to make a serious challenge to the lead. Eric Dixon scored a team-high 23 points with Jhamir Brickus adding 21. They combined to shoot 8-of-13 from beyond the arc. Redshirt freshman Jordann Dumont came off the bench to connect on all four 3-pointers and finish with a career-best 15 points. Zaide Lowery scored a career-high 25 points off the bench for the Golden Eagles. Kam Jones had 10 points and eight assists.
It's a rare Saturday with only one game on the schedule, but
Butler and
DePaul are the only two teams in action. They will meet at Wintrust Arena at 8 p.m. ET on FS1. The Bulldogs (12-14, 5-10) have their five league wins in their last nine games. The Blue Demons (11-16, 2-14) have been led recently by CJ Gunn, who is averaging 12.3 points per game for the season. Butler won the first meeting 86-69 on Jan. 25.
