NEW YORK – Marquette’s Vincent Cervantes and Xavier’s Mason Witt will share BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week accolades after they both took medalist honors in their respective tournaments. Georgetown’s Gabriella Eifrig is the BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week after a strong performance at the Terps Invitational.
BIG EAST Male Golfers of the Week
Vincent Cervantes, Marquette, Fr.
Cervantes earned his first medalist honor of his career at the Irish Creek Collegiate, which included a 6-under 64 in the final round. He carded a 4-under 136 (72-64). The freshman posted a clean card with six birdies in the final round and became the first MU freshman to win an individual title since Hunter Eichhorn captured the 2018 BIG EAST Championship at Callawassie Island, S.C.
Mason Witt, Xavier, Sr.
Witt grabbed medalist honors at Northern Kentucky’s The Jewell with a 3-under 139. He won the event, which included a field of 83 golfers at the Elks Run Golf Course in Batavia, Ohio. The senior posted his fourth career top-10 finish. He defeated Wright State’s Shane Ochs by one stroke to win the title.
BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Gabriella Eifrig, Georgetown, Fr.
Eifrig led the Hoyas at the Terps Invitational with a 3-over 219, which tied for 11
th place. She used a final-round 71, which included four birdies, to move up 14 spots on the leaderboard. Over the 54 holes, the freshman tallied six birdies and 40 pars. The Hoyas took third place at the event with a team score of 885 (+21).
Women’s Notes –
Xavier finished second at the Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Ga., behind the play of freshman Isabel Brozena and senior Kara Carter who tied for fourth place with 36-hole scores of 5-over 149. The Musketeers posted a team score of 604 (+28) and were just two strokes behind host Mercer (602, +26). Since the start of the 2022-23 season, Xavier has 12 top-five finishes, including four tournament titles and four runner-up finishes…
Butler junior Kelli Scheck was the top-performing Bulldog at the Boilermaker Spring Classic. She finished tied for 20
th place at 224 (+8). Her best score was an even-par 72 in the second round. Butler finished 11
th in the 16-team field…
Creighton freshman Julia Karmazin earned the first top-10 finish of her career and helped the Bluejays finish sixth at the Stampede at the Creek in Elkhorn, Neb. Karmazin placed sixth with rounds of 76, 76 and 77 for a 229 total. Her previous best finish was a 15
th at the Big O Classic. She now owns a team-leading 77.91 stroke average…
Seton Hall and
St. John’s competed through rainy conditions at the Rutgers Invitational. The Hall’s Marta Aguilar continued her strong freshman season by tying for fifth place with a 12-over 225 (75-77-73). It was her third consecutive top-five finish and fourth of the year in nine tournaments. Cathilyn Lee was the best performer for St. John’s with a 25
th-place finish. She carded an 18-over 231. In the team standings, the Pirates tied for fifth and the Red Storm tied for 10
th.
Men’s Notes –
Villanova finished third in the Abarta Collegiate Invitational hosted by Lafayette College. Jackson Lehner took fifth placed individually, which was his second top-10 finish of the season. The Wildcats put together a team scored of 590 (+14)…
Butler and
DePaul were scheduled to play in the Hoosier Intercollegiate, but the event was cancelled by heavy rains.
