Marquette, Denver Split BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Awards

BIG EAST Attacker of the Week
Meg Bireley, Marquette, Sr., A
Bireley had four goals, one assist and one caused turnover in Marquette’s win over UConn, 16-15. She became the first player in program history to score 200 career goals and record 250 career points. Bireley also leads the BIG EAST and is eighth in the country for goals per game this season with an average of 4.07.
 
BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week
Hanna Bodner, Marquette, Sr., M
Bodner had five goals, three draw controls and two caused turnovers in the win over the Huskies. This is the fourth week this season that Bodner has earned the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week honor.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Megan Klingenberg, Denver, Jr., D
Klingenberg had three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the 14-9 win at No. 9 Stanford. As part of Denver’s defense, Klingenberg helped limit Stanford to nine goals, about five under their season average.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Lexi Gwaku, Denver, Fr., GK
While in goal, Gwaku made six saves against Stanford, helping her team to the win. The game marked the second win for the Pioneers over a top-10 team this season.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Lauren Black, Denver, Sr., A
Black scored four goals and two assists to help the Pioneers defeat the Cardinal.
Gracie Driggs, Georgetown, Jr., A
Driggs had six goals, one ground ball and seven draw controls against No. 14 James Madison. The Hoyas fell 16-11. She then went on to score four goals, one ground ball and 14 draw controls in a 17-6 win over Butler.
Mary Velner, Marquette, So., D
Velner tied her career-highs with three ground balls and three caused turnovers in the win over UConn.
