DURHAM, N.C. – Georgetown University's top-seeded men's lacrosse team defeated seventh-seeded Duke 16-12 to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 13th time in program history. The Hoyas snap an eight-game losing streak to the Blue Devils and earn their first win against Duke since 2008.
Hoya Highlights
- Aidan Carroll led the Hoyas with six goals and a pair of assists for eight points while Fulton Bayman had four goals and an assist.
- Patrick Crogan added three goals, Jack Ransom had two goals and an assist and Joe Cesare found the back of the net once.
- Kade Goldberg was credited with two assists while Ty Banks chipped in another.
- Ross Prince was 20-for-30 (.667) on faceoffs and collected nine ground balls.
- In goal, Anderson Moore (12-4) had nine saves in the win.
How it Happened
- Georgetown came out aggressively, scoring on the opening possession and adding goals at the 9:24 and 5:56 marks to take a 3-0 lead. Duke ended its scoring drought after 10:59 of action to salvage a 3-1 score after 15 minutes.
- The second quarter had a combined 10 goals between the two teams. Duke got on the board first before the Hoyas responded with back-to-back scores to lead 5-2. After trading goals, Duke went on a 3-0 spurt to knot things up at 6-6 with 19 seconds to play in the half. A Carroll goal with four ticks remaining gave Georgetown a 7-6 lead, but Duke scored off the ensuing faceoff to force a 7-7 draw going into halftime.
- Coming out of the break, the Hoyas blew the game open by scoring the first four goals of the frame and outscoring Duke 5-1 overall to lead 12-8.
- Georgetown would push its lead to as many as six, up 15-9 with 6:40 to play in the game. Duke managed three goals down the stretch thanks in part to a hard 10-man ride, but it wasn't enough as the Hoyas sealed the 16-12 victory.
Duke Notes
- Eric Malever led the Blue Devils with two goals and two assists. Benn Johnstone and Max Sloat both added two goals and an assist.
- In goal, Patrick Jameison had 13 saves in the loss.
Georgetown Notes
- With his eight points, Carroll moves into 12th place all time on the Georgetown career scoring list with 151 points. He passes Jim Nagle ('84) on the list.
- Carroll eclipsed the 70 point mark on the season, becoming just the eighth Hoya in program history to achieve the milestone. His 74 points this year rank fifth all-time in a campaign on the Hilltop.
- Prince is the eighth Hoya in program history with 20 faceoffs wins in a game and the first since James Reilly ('22, '23) had 21 against Notre Dame in 2022.
