SEVEN-IN-A-ROW! Georgetown Claims the #BIGEASTmlax Title

DENVER – Top-seeded Georgetown took down No. 2-seeded Villanova, 16-8, with a record-breaking performance by senior attackman Aidan Carroll Saturday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium in the 2025 BIG EAST Men’s Lacrosse Championship Presented by JEEP.

The Hoyas (11-4, 4-1 BIG EAST) made NCAA history, lifting the trophy for a seventh consecutive season, surpassing the previous record held by North Carolina in the ACC at six in a row. In addition, the Hoyas improved to 7-1 all-time in the title game, the most wins in BIG EAST men’s lacrosse history. Earning the automatic bid for the BIG EAST Conference, Georgetown will await its NCAA Championship fate in Sunday night’s selection show at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

For the second straight year Carroll is the BIG EAST Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, as the senior attacker registered nine goals and four assists to amass 13 points over the pair of contests. Over his last four tournament games, Carroll capped his BIG EAST Tournament career with 25 points (16G, 9 A). The 13 points are tied for the second most all-time in BIG EAST Championship history with Georgetown’s Lucas Wittenberg (3G, 10A) set in 2019 and two behind Georgetown’s Tucker Dordevic (10G, 5A) in 2023.

The Hoyas offense shot out of a cannon to open the contest, scoring the first three goals in a span of 3:58 in the opening quarter. Off an assist by Kevin Miller, Jordan Wray found the back of the net at the 14:17 minute mark, before Aidan Carroll doubled the advantage at 13:44. Joe Cesare capped the run with a tally at 11:02 off an assist by Patrick Crogan.

The Wildcats closed out the opening stanza strong, as Matt Licata jumpstarted the Villanova scoring attack with an unassisted goal at 7:56, before Nick Lucchesi tallied a goal with 4:08 to play in the quarter that made it 3-2.

Carroll ripped his second goal of the game and gave the Hoyas the 4-2 opening quarter advantage with 2:31 left.

Licata got things going against for the Wildcats just 39 seconds into the second quarter, as the attacker tallied his 28th goal of the season and fifth of the tournament.

Fulton Bayman put the Hoyas back up two, 5-3, with his ninth point of the tournament and first of the game, finding the back of the net off an assist by Carroll. Then at the 8:03 mark, Georgetown doubled its lead when freshman Jack Ransom tallied his 27th goal of the season and first of the tournament.

The Wildcats got back on the scoreboard with under two to play in the half, as Quinton Cepiel beat the goalie off a turnover and converted on a diving shot attempt.

However, the Hoya lead extended back to three as Georgetown took a 7-4 halftime lead after Carroll completed the first half hat trick with an unassisted tally.

Out of the break, Georgetown extended its lead to five after back-to-back goals by Carroll who tallied his fourth and fifth goals of the contest less than five minutes into the second half.

Villanova’s Dan Martin stopped the three-goal run for the Hoyas with 7:23 remaining in the third quarter off an assist by Licata.

The Georgetown lead once again doubled with 19:24 to play in regulation, as the Hoyas’ seventh different goal scorer Kevin Miller found the back of the net. One minute later, Carroll registered his sixth goal of the contest and 40th of the season, as Bayman picked up the assist, his 10th point of the tournament.

In déjà vu fashion 38 seconds in the future, Bayman once again connected with Carroll who tied his own tournament record with his seventh goal of the game.

On the faceoff, Ross Prince was 17 for 23 in the circle, while in goal Anderson Moore made 12 saves for the Hoyas. For the tournament, Moore had 19 saves and 14 goals against for a .578 save percentage.
