BIG EAST Player of the Week
Ryan Daniels, UConn, Jr., OF (Meridan, Conn.)
Daniels was lights out in a series sweep of Butler to extend the Huskies win streak to seven games, including 19 wins in the last 20 games. The junior outfielder registered back-to-back 4-for-5 hitting games, capping the week with an 8-for-11 (.727) hitting performance and three walks. Overall, he collected 10 RBI, hit two home runs, scored six runs and recorded both a double and a triple. Defensively, he was a perfect 14-for-14 fielding with 8 assists and six put outs.
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Dominic Cancellieri, Creighton, Gr., RHP (Wayne, N.J.)
Cancellieri was dominant in the series opening win over Xavier, tossing 7.1 innings of scoreless baseball. In the 6-3 win over the Musketeers, the Creighton ace scattered six hits with one walk, while striking out seven batters. It was the longest outing of the season, and helped the Bluejays secure a spot in the BIG EAST Championship Presented by Jeep.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Andrew Williams, Georgetown, Sr., LHP
Williams was sensational from start to finish against Seton Hall on Sunday tossing a complete game shutout. The lefty tossed all nine frames allowing only five hits and zero runs while punching out three.
Anthony Brienza, St. John’s, Gr., 2B
Brienza was a crucial piece in the Red Storm's 3-1 week. The Johnnies' second baseman slashed .643/.722/.857 with a team-best nine hits, including a double and a triple. He tallied five runs, three RBI, two walks and a hit-by-pitch.
Victor Frederick, St. John’s, Fr., RHP
Frederick picked up his fourth win of the season behind five innings of no-run ball, only allowing three hits, while striking out a season-high six batters.
Kevin Milewski, Seton Hall, So., C
Milewski smacked two home runs, and tallied five RBI and two scored runs in a series win over Georgetown. He also walked twice, finishing with a .357 OBP & .750 SLG. On Friday, with Seton Hall trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the 9th, he slugged a walkoff three-run homer.
Ryan Piech, Xavier, So., RHP
Piech earned the win in Xavier’s 4-2 victory at Creighton on Sunday. He finished with a season-high seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work innings of action, allowing three hits and one run, unearned.
