Huskies Lead After Day Two of the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women (117.50 points) and men (119) lead after day two of the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships presented by JEEP. Friday started with final events for the heptathlon and decathlon, which included long jump, javelin and 800 meters for the heptathlon along with 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500-meters for decathlon.
All events are taking place at Sherman Sports Complex on the campus of University of Connecticut.
 
DePaul women are in second with 45 points, followed by St. John’s (37.50), Villanova (28), Georgetown (23), Providence (22), Marquette (22), Butler (10) and Xavier (1). Villanova men finished day two with 40 points for second, followed by Butler (37), DePaul (35), Georgetown (28), Marquette (24), Providence (19), Xavier (6) and Creighton (3).

The final day of competition begins at 10 a.m. ET tomorrow with the women’s discus and triple jump and men’s javelin. Track events begin at 11 a.m. with the 4x100-meter relay. The BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports will cover the running events live. Women’s Heptathlon
UConn's Audrey Kozak placed first in the heptathlon with 4,959 points with first place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles (14.49), high jump (1.61m), 200-meter dash (24.24m) and long jump (5.56m). Teammate Mackenzie Braunstein took home silver (4,854 points) who placed first in the shot put (10.43m) and the 800-meter run (2:16.80). Butler’s Lily Wharton rounded out the top three earning third place with 4,281 points.

Men’s Decathlon
With 7,810 points UConn’s Joshua Mooney took gold with first place finishes in the 100-meter dash (10.73), long jump (6.96m), shot put (12.74m), 100-meter hurdles (14.30), discus (41.73m), discus (4.60m), and javelin (71.45m). Teammate Max Ringwall came in second with 7,015 points while Marquette’s Gus Kasun placed third (6,883).

Long Jump
Connecticut took the top two spots in the men’s long jump with Kasey Savage taking first (7.67m) followed by Marc Morrison (7.65m). Villanova’s Justin Miller earned third place with a jump of 7.21 meters. St. John’s Cassandra Lemus-Sodji placed first on the women’s side (6.02m) while teammate Linn Hertz Saebbo finished in third (5.94m). DePaul’s Jaiah Hopf tallied second with a mark of 5.96m.

Shot Put
With a throw of 18.17 meters, DePaul’s Jaiden Gary earned gold in the men’s shot put. UConn’s Jack Foster (16.40m) and Garrett McHeard (15.80m) recorded second and third place, respectively. DePaul’s Kash Allen led the women with a distance of 15.90m while St. John’s Jamora Alves finished second (15.24m). UConn’s Sinclair Fryer rounded out the top three (14.59m)

Men’s High Jump
UConn swept the medal stand with Enaji Muhammad getting gold (2.11m), Dar Jankovic earning silver (2.05m) and Kasey Savage receiving bronze (2.00m).
 
Women’s Pole Vault
Women’s pole vault saw a four-way tie for first place with UConn’s Rachel Mason and Katie Floering, Marquette’s Sophie Herriot and St. John’s Berit Friedenbach all clearing 3.62 meters.
 
3,000m Steeplechase
Providence’s Patrick Thygesen took first in the men’s steeplechase with a time of 8:46.72. Georgetown’s Colin Kirkpatrick (8:47.43) and Xavier’s Trevor Nolan (8:47.44) finished second and third, respectively. On the women’s side, Georgetown’s Barrett Justema claimed gold with a PR time of 10:71.81. DePaul’s Tessa Roe crossed the finish line for second place (10:19.27) while UConn’s Faith Kiplimo rounded out the medal stand winners for third (10:20.92).
 
5,000m
Providence’s Kimberley May recorded first with a time of 15:50.04 on the women’s side, followed by UConn’s Jenna Zydanowicz (15:56.25) and Villanova’s Sadie Sigfstead (16:07.57). Villanova’s Marco Langon set the BIG EAST men’s record with a time of 13:27.21 for gold. Teammate Chris Sullivan finished in 13:45.02 for second and Butler’s Jesse Hamlin received bronze (13:46.59).
