NEW YORK – On the eve of the 2025 BIG EAST Baseball Championship Presented by JEEP, the conference announced the regular-season awards and all-conference teams.
Junior second baseman Ryan Daniels garnered Player of the Year after leading UConn to the No. 2 overall seed and the program’s fifth straight regular season title. Leading Creighton to its first BIG EAST regular season title since 2019 along with the No. 1 overall seed, right-handed pitcher Dominic Cancellieri was awarded BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year. The Bluejays rounded out the major awards, as right-handed pitcher Wilson Magers was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and head coach Ed Servais and his crew were selected as the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year.
Along with the four major regular-season awards, the conference announced the 2025 All-Conference First and Second Teams, preceding the BIG EAST Championship, which will take place at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio from May 21-24.
The league's tournament teams: Connecticut, Creighton, St. John’s and Xavier, made up 10 of the 15 all-conference first team selections, including 20 out of 28 of the combined members on the first and second teams.
UConn, Creighton and St. John’s each boasted three members on the All-BIG EAST First Team. The Bluejays led all teams with six players combined on both lists, followed by UConn and Xavier with five.
The 14-member first team was made up of four starting pitchers, one reliever, each infield position, three outfielders, a catcher and a designated hitter. The second team was based on a non-positional vote.
Voting for the All-BIG EAST Team and major awards was conducted by the league's eight head coaches who could not cast a ballot for their own players. Ties were not broken.
Daniels earned the BIG EAST's top individual honor after a productive campaign for the Huskies. The junior second baseman batted .372 in 21 league games with 78 at bats, while driving in a co-league high 34 RBI and scoring 28 runs with nine doubles. Appearing in 50 games overall, he batted .362 with a .724 slugging percentage, scoring 64 runs, tallying 68 RBI and blasting 15 home runs. Defensively, he registered a .975 fielding percentage with 73 put outs and 84 assists.
Earning seven league starts, Cancellieri boasted a 2-1 record against BIG EAST opponents to lead the Bluejays back to the BIG EAST Championship as the No. 1 seed, in addition to garnering BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year accolades. Cancellieri led the league with a conference low 2.06 ERA, while striking out 39 batters in 35.0 innings. Over the course of the regular season, Cancellieri earned the start in 11 contests, capping the regular season with a 1.72 ERA and 52 strikeouts over 47.0 innings pitched. He allowed just 39 hits and 22 runs.
A key contributor for Creighton, Magers earned 13 starts and posted a 6-2 overall record in the regular season. With a 3.09 ERA, Magers pitched 67.0 innings, striking out 50 batters and allowing just 45 hits. In league play, he was a perfect 3-0 in seven starts, capping BIG EAST action with a 2.29 ERA and 27 strikeouts. Opponents batted just .205 against the freshman right-hander, with 25 hits and 16 runs allowed.
After capping the 2024 regular season in sixth place at 7-13 in the BIG EAST Standings, Ed Servais and his staff quickly turned things back around in 2025 with a 17-4 league mark and the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Championship. Overall, Servais leads the Bluejays back to the tournament for the first time since 2022, while the team shares the regular season crown for the first time since 2019.
