STORRS, Conn. – UConn freshman shortstop Cat Petteys has been named to the D1 Softball All-America Second Team announced on Thursday, capping off a remarkable rookie season in Storrs.
Petteys, who started in 53 of UConn's 54 games, made an instant impact both offensively and defensively this season. She was previously honored as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team, and earned a spot on the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament All-Tournament Team.
The standout rookie put up stellar numbers at the plate, slugging 15 home runs and driving in 48 RBI, the highest totals from a freshman in a rookie season in UConn history. Petteys posted an impressive .400 batting average, the fifth highest in a season in program history. The New York native added eleven doubles, and two triples, scoring 45 runs, the third most on UConn's roster in 2025.
Defensively, Petteys made 79 putouts with 91 assists at shortstop, posting a .919 fielding percentage.
In conference play, Petteys led all BIG EAST rookies in batting average (.427), home runs (10), RBI (31), and doubles (9). Her numbers in BIG EAST play placed her among the conference's elite, ranking in the top five in eight offensive statistical categories; hits, RBI, home runs, doubles, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs scored, and total bases.
