St. John’s and Villanova Split MLAX Weekly Awards

BIG EAST Player and Freshman of the Week
Noah Plenn, St. John’s, R-Fr., A (Cape May, N.J.)
Plenn put on a show in a pair of wins for the Red Storm, totaling 11 points on the week. On Tuesday against Quinnipiac, the redshirt freshman totaled eight points with five goals and three assists. The point total set a St. John’s program record for points in a game by a freshman, since reinstatement in 2005. Plenn followed it up with a goal and two assists in a 9-8 win over Hofstra. Overall, he tallied six goals and five assists over the course of the week.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Denis Fargione, Villanova, So., G (Garden City, N.Y.)
Fargione tied a career-high with 19 saves against the Scarlet Knights, keeping the
Wildcats in the game with a .704 save percentage. The lone netminder to see time for the 'Cats this year, Fargione made six saves to keep it a scoreless third quarter and only allowed one goal in the entirety of the second half. The sophomore also added his first career point with an assist in the fourth quarter, making a save and taking the clear over the midline himself before finding a wide open teammate for the game-tying goal.

BIG EAST Specialist of the Week
Jake Melchionni, Villanova, Jr., LSM (Bernardsville, N.J.)
Melchionni totaled a career-high nine ground balls in Saturday's loss to Rutgers, also
causing three turnovers against the Scarlet Knights for a game-high in both categories. The junior LSM is Villanova's team leader on the season in both GBs (16) and CTs (8), topping the BIG EAST in caused turnovers per game as well as ground balls per game among players with more than one game played.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Marek Tzagournis, Denver, Jr., A
Tzagournis netted a hat trick in the second half to both tie and give Denver a two-goal lead in the fourth quarter, in the Pioneers tight loss to No. 4 Cornell on Saturday.
Rory Connor, Georgetown, Gr., A 
Connor scored four goals in a 15-9 loss at No. 8/7 Notre Dame on Sunday. He added a ground ball and had a caused turnover.
Nolan Rappis, Marquette, Gr., A 
Rappis led a comeback against Cleveland State, adding three fourth quarter goals to come back from a 5-1 deficit in the third quarter to secure a 9-7 win. Overall, he registered four goals, two assists three ground balls.
Adam Slager, Marquette, Sr., FOS
Slager played a pivotal role in Marquette’s second-half comeback, winning 7-of-9 faceoffs, all in the second half, to help the Golden Eagles regain possession and control the tempo. He also added four ground balls and recorded a key fourth-quarter assist that helped shift momentum.
Cam Sterritt, Providence, So., G 
Sterritt recorded a career-high 18 saves on a .692 save percentage in an overtime loss to Brown.
