BIG EAST Player of the Week
Tyler Minick, UConn, Jr., INF (Reading, Pa.)
Minick’s bat caught fire in a 4-2 week for the Huskies, smashing four home runs and collecting 10 RBI. The junior added six runs in four wins, with at least one hit in all six games. Against Cal, he had a double and a home run, before following it up with a home run in a win against Santa Clara. In a win on Sunday against San Diego State, he had a week-high three hits, to go with three runs scored, four RBI, and two home runs. He capped the week with two RBI and a run scored at San Jose State.
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Charlie Hale, UConn, Jr., RHP (Brookline, N.H.)
Hale was dominant on the mound this week, collecting a pair of wins and a save. In a midweek contest against Cal, he pitched 5.1 innings, allowed two earned runs and struck out seven batters in a 9-3 win. He followed it up with a Sunday doubleheader against San Diego State and San Jose State. Against the Aztecs, he pitched one scoreless inning to collect his first save of the season. He capped the week with 6.1 innings of scoreless work against the Spartans, retiring five batters in an 8-0 win. Overall, he pitched 12.2 innings, struck out 13 batters, allowed just seven hits and finished with a combined 1.475 ERA.
Honor Roll
Spencer Seid, Georgetown, Gr., LHP
Seid struck out eight batters in six innings of work, allowing just one run and two hits in a 6-3 win over Youngstown State.
Liam O’Leary, St. John’s, Jr., RHP
O’Leary allowed just one run in 8.0 innings pitched of Friday’s 8-1 victory over UT Arlington. He stuck out two batters in the outing.
Gabe Cavazzoni, Seton Hall, Jr., INF
Cavazzoni had at least one base hit and drove in at least one run in all four games of a 3-1 week for the Pirates. He finished with seven hits, to go along with six RBI and three runs scored.
Jack Kelley, Villanova, Gr., RHP
Kelley pitched a 10-4 win over UNC Asheville, striking out two batters and allowing just two hits and a 0.0 ERA in a 5.0 innings of work.
Ryan Piech, Xavier, Jr., RHP
Piech made the start in Xavier’s 6-1 series opening win against Wofford, pitching 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out seven batters.
