EUGENE, Ore. – Action continued on Thursday at the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field, hosted by the University of Oregon.
 
UConn’s Joshua Mooney made a giant leap up the leaderboard in the final five events of the men’s decathlon, Creighton’s Trinity Shadd-Ceres continued to rewrite the Creighton’s history books, and Barrett Justema qualified for the 3,000-meter steeplechase final.
 
Entering the day in 18^th-place through five events, Mooney finished in the top three in each of the first four events on Thursday, skyrocketing into the top eight of the decathlon. The junior capped the meet with 7,869 points to place eighth and earn First Team All-America accolades. On Thursday, he finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (14.20 seconds) and javelin (60.04 meters), as well as third in the discus (45.00 meters) and pole vault (4.91 meters).
 
After becoming the first student-athlete in Creighton history to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Shadd-Ceres jumped a personal-best 6.52 meters in the long jump on Thursday. The historic jump by the freshman sensation secured First Team All-America honors with a sixth-place finish.
 
In the qualifying track events, Georgetown’s Justema set a new personal best with a blazing time of 9:45.58 in the 3000-meter steeplechase, placing 11^th and securing a qualifying position in Saturday’s final. The championship race is scheduled for 8:24 p.m. ET on Saturday.
 
Justema’s senior teammate Charlotte Tomkinson competed in the 1,500-meter race on Thursday night, placing 15^th with a time of 4:11.16. Later in the night, Providence’s Maeve O’Neill competed in the 800-meter qualifier, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:01.48 in 15^th-place.
 
On Friday, Villanova’s Marco Langon will compete in the 5000-meter final, while UConn’s Maresa Hense will kickstart the women’s heptathlon.
