Xavier, Marquette Take First 2026 BIG EAST Weekly Golf Awards

NEW YORK – Xavier's Isabel Brozena and Marquette's Vincent Cervantes earned the first weekly BIG EAST golf awards of the 2026 fall season.

Brozena tied for medalist honors at The Bruzzy, finishing at 10-under par for the three-round tournament. Cervantes shined in two tournaments for the Golden Eagles, posting his best finish at the Island Resort Intercollegiate from Sept. 6-7.

Brozena set a new Xavier record for 54-hole scoring, finishing with a 10-under par total of 206 (69-66-71) en route to sharing medalist honors in the Musketeers' season opener at The Bruzzy in Trophy Club, Texas, held Sept. 8-9.  Her 6-under second round score of 66 tied for the third-best single round in program history.  Brozena now has three collegiate wins and 13 top 10 finishes in her career.

Vincent Cervantes, Marquette
Cervantes tied for third place at the Island Resort Intercollegiate, posting an 11-under par total of 205 (68-65-72).  It marked his lowest 54-hole total score and lowest total vs. par in his career.  In the first tournament of the season - the New York Harbor Cup in Bayonne, N.J. held Aug. 31-Sept. 1 - Cervantes tied for ninth place with a 4-under par 209, highlighted by an opening round 63 (-8). 

Women's Notes:  Xavier placed sixth as a team at The Bruzzy, combining to finish at 10-under par  (283-284-287=854) - registering a new program record for 54-hole scoring...Georgetown placed third as a team at the Tribe Invitational with a three-round team total of 900 (302-292-306)...the Hoyas' Sunny Wang placed second overall, carding eight birdies and 37 pars en route to a personal best round of 71 (-1) during the second round of play...Seton Hall opened its season at the Nittany Lion Invitational, finishing in 15th place (309-301-306=916)...the Pirates were led by sophomore Isabella Stewart, who tied for 38th place with a 4-over par 220 (73-73-74) - her best collegiate performance relative to par.

Men’s Notes: Seton Hall and Villanova competed at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial from Sept. 5-6...the Pirates' Will Hennessee placed second overall, going under par for all three rounds en route to a 5-under 211 (70-71-70) while guiding SHU to the team title...Seton Hall won the team title by 10 strokes for its 37th victory in program history...Villanova freshman Evan Rohde tied for third place, finishing at 4-under 212 (74-69-69)...Rohde was 6-under par over the final 36 holes of competition...the Wildcats placed seventh overall as a team...Marquette opened the season with a pair of tournaments...the Golden Eagles tied for sixth place at the New York Harbor Cup (276-283-291=850), led by Ryan Banas' tie for fourth place with a 7-under 206 (69-67-70)...Marquette was seventh at the Island Resort Intercollegiate (291-276-295=850)...Creighton finished ninth at the ANF Fall Classic...the Bluejays were led by Owen Price's tie for 20th place, finishing with a 1-over par 217 (71-73-73).
