STORRS, Conn. — Number 10 ranked UConn field Hockey team defeated no.3 Princeton 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Nancy Stevens Field. UConn was outshot 12-6 but put five shots on goal and got five saves in the win.

Princeton produced more total shots, 12-6, while the shots-on-goal count was much closer at 6-5. Natalie McKenna finished with five saves for UConn, and Princeton was credited with three defensive saves as both teams had chances kept out beyond the goalkeeper totals.

The Huskies kept Princeton off the scoreboard in the first quarter despite facing three penalty corners. Princeton generated two shots by Ottilie Sykes, one wide and one blocked, and the quarter ended 0-0.

UConn's most important work in the second quarter came defensively, as it held Princeton scoreless through two late penalty corners and a three-shot stretch. Natalie McKenna saved Clem Houlden's attempt at 28:34 after two Princeton shots were blocked, while Rocio Heintze had UConn's recorded shot blocked earlier in the quarter. The quarter ended with the game still 0-0.

An early third-quarter push turned into a 1-0 UConn lead at 34:07, as Lucy Zich scored with assists from Maya Everett and Milou Heuker. The sequence included Ellie Goldstein's saved shot, Fien Hollander's shot stopped for a defensive save and three Heuker penalty corners. Princeton answered at 43:49 on Saylor Milone's goal after Natalie McKenna saved Caitlin Thompson's shot, sending UConn to the end of the quarter tied 1-1.

The Huskies' clearest fourth-quarter push came from a penalty corner at 52:46, with Zich and Heuker each having a shot stopped by Princeton defensive saves. Princeton answered with a wide shot by Molly Nye, and neither team scored as the quarter ended tied 1-1.

In the first overtime, UConn faced all four recorded shots, with Natalie McKenna making three saves and another Princeton attempt blocked after a penalty corner. Abby Davidson was shown a yellow card at 71:13, and the scoreless overtime ended with the teams tied 1-1.

In the shootout, UConn converted three of its four attempts, with Davidson, Zich and Olivia McKenna converting. Natalie McKenna was credited on three Princeton misses, and UConn finished the shootout with a 1-0 segment advantage.

Zich scored on two shots, putting both attempts on goal. Natalie McKenna made five saves over 90 minutes and allowed one goal. Maya Everett recorded an assist. Heuker added an assist and put her lone shot on goal.
