BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Barry Keane, Butler, RSr., Distance (Waterford, Ireland)
In one of the most impressive races in Butler history, Barry Keane set a new Ireland national record for an indoor 5,000 meters, crossing the line in 13:25.96 at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 4.
Keane's time set a new Butler record by nearly 15 seconds, with the previous mark being 13:40.90. Overall, he ranks first in the BIG EAST and fifth in the nation in the event.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Paul Signorelli, Butler, Fr., Pole Vault (Cincinnati, Ohio)
Freshman Paul Signorelli claimed the Butler school record in the pole vault in just the second meet of his Bulldog career. Signorelli won the event at the DePaul Blue Demon Holiday Invitational with a height of 5.10 meters (16'9"). The mark ranks first in the BIG EAST and 15th in the nation. His height a week ago, in his first Butler meet (Notre Dame’s Blue & Gold Invitational), tied the existing school record held by Wade Walder at 4.85 meters (15'11").
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Kiersten Walker, DePaul, Gr, Sprints (Milwaukee, Wisc.)
DePaul graduate student Kiersten Walker shattered an 11-year program record with a time of 39.17 seconds in the 300m dash followed up by a stellar performance as the anchor leg on the winning 4x400m relay team on Friday. On Dec. 3, Walker claimed first in the 400m at the 2021 Blue & Gold Invitational. Clocking in at 55.12 seconds, she currently ranks fifth in the nation and first in the BIG EAST in the quarter-mile event.
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Allie Flando, Marquette, Gr., Throws (Avon, Ohio)
Marquette graduate student Allie Flando measured a BIG EAST leading and personal best mark of 18.54 meters in the weight throw at the Blue Demon Holiday Invite hosted by DePaul. Overall, she ranks 25th in the nation with her 60-foot, 10-inch throw on Friday.
Notable Performances
- Georgetown’s Maggie Donahue clocked in with the 15th fastest 5,000m in the nation and top-time in the BIG EAST with a time of 15:49.39 at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
- Marquette’s Jefferson Osunkwo took first in the triple jump at both the Blue Demon Holiday Invite and Blue and Gold Invite. With a personal record jump of 14.05 m (46’1.24”) he now ranks ninth in Marquette history.
- Butler’s Niki Ezeh posted a solid all-around performance at the Notre Dame Blue & Gold Invite, highlighted by a school record of 8.61 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. The time ranks 23rd in the nation. In addition, she placed third with a mark of 5.55m in the long jump, as well as third in the shot put with a throw of 13.67m.
- Georgetown’s Andrew Jordan competed alongside Keane in the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, finishing just three seconds behind the Bulldog with a time of 13:28.10 in the 5,000m race. Overall, he ranks second in the BIG EAST and seventh in the nation.
