Four Teams Split BIG EAST Track and Field Weekly Awards

BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Tinoda Matsatsa, Georgetown, Jr.
Matsatsa finished second in the men’s 800 meters at the Penn State National Open with a time of 1:45.12. The junior’s performance set a new program record and ranks as the fourth-fastest time in NCAA indoor history. Matsatsa currently stands third in the nation and leads all BIG EAST competitors this season.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Maeve O'Neill, Providence, Jr.
O’Neill won her heat and placed sixth overall in the women’s 800 meters at the Boston University Terrier Classic, posting a program-record time of 2:01.96, ranking eighth in the NCAA this season. The junior broke Kimberley May’s school record of 2:04.47, set in 2024, and has now established program records in the 600, 800, and 1,000 meters this season.
 
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Dar Jankovic, UConn, Jr.
Jankovic captured first place in the men’s heptathlon at the Harvard Invitational, totaling 5,061 points to secure the victory.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Maria Deaviz, Villanova, Grad.
Deaviz extended her school record in the shot put with a 16.76-meter mark at the Penn Invitational, setting a new indoor personal best. The graduate student ranks No. 16 nationally.

Notable Performances
  • Butler’s Jesse Hamlin ran a time of 7:45.07 in the men’s 3000 meters at the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston, Mass., finishing as the second-fastest collegiate athlete in the field.
  • UConn’s Rachel Mason won the pole vault at the Terrier Classic with a jump of 3.91 meters, tying for the second-best mark in program history and leading the BIG EAST.
  • DePaul’s Daniel Fasasi won the men’s 400 meters at the Meyo Invitational with an indoor personal-best 46.62, ranking first in the BIG EAST and No. 31 nationally.
  • Georgetown’s Jaden Marchan won the men’s 500 meters at the Penn State National Open with a time of 1:00.62, breaking his own school record, ranking second in NCAA history, and setting a national record for Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Marquette’s Mason Cornwell won the pole vault at the Lake Michigan Open, clearing a personal-best height of 4.35 meters.
  • Villanova’s Dan Watcke posted a time of 1:46.32 in the men’s 800 meters at the Penn State National Open, moving up to No. 9 in the NCAA this season.
