Four Teams Take BIG EAST Track and Field Weekly Awards

BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Jaden Marchan, Georgetown, So.
Marchan won the men’s 400 meters at the Penn Classic with a time of 45.78, setting a program record, facility record, and personal best. His mark ranks 11th nationally and first in the BIG EAST this season.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Lizzie Martell, Villanova, Gr.
Martell posted a personal-best 2:03.58 in the 800 meters at the Penn Classic, ranking 18th nationally and earning the top BIG EAST time of the weekend. Her mark is the sixth-fastest indoor 800 meters in school history and moves Martell to ninth overall on Villanova’s all-time performance list, including third all-time indoors.
 
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Emi Erekosima, UConn, Sr.
Erekosima won the triple jump at the Sykes and Sabock Challenge with a mark of 15.23 meters. The senior currently leads the BIG EAST in the event.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jaiah Hopf, DePaul, Sr.
Hopf won the long jump at the Badger Windy City Invitational with a mark of 6.02 meters and recorded a 12.45-meter triple jump, which ranks second in the BIG EAST.

Notable Performances
  • Butler’s Anna Niebrugge set school records in back-to-back events at the Fairgrounds Invitational, running 7.58 in the 60 meters and 24.26 in the 200 meters over the weekend.
  • DePaul’s Sade Miller recorded a 24.06 in the 200 meters at the Badger Windy City Invitational, earning a runner-up finish and the top BIG EAST mark this season, and ran 7.52 in the 60 meters.
  • Marquette’s Ally Broaddus led Marquette at the Red Hawk Invitational by winning the weight throw with a mark of 16.79 meters.
  • Villanova’s Yianni Papanikolas recorded a mark of 15.60 meters in the shot put at the Penn Classic, his second-longest throw of the season and the top BIG EAST performance for the weekend.
  • Xavier’s Quinton Williams placed third in the 60-meter dash at the Fairgrounds Invitational with a 6.84, marking the second-fastest time in Xavier history and the fifth-fastest in the BIG EAST this season.
