Butler, Creighton and Seton Hall Earn BIG EAST Tennis Weekly Awards

BIG EAST Male Singles Player of the Week
Thomas Brennan, Butler, Sr. (Dublin, Ireland)
Butler’s Thomas Brennan won a pair of matches in No. 1 singles this past week. The senior earned a win over Ball State’s Danillo Kavacevic, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(2), last Wednesday before earning a 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 win on Sunday. Brennan is now 6-3 in No. 1 singles on the season.
 
BIG EAST Female Singles Player of the Week
Arina Gumerova, Seton Hall, Jr. (Ufa, Russia)
Seton Hall’s Arina Gumerova went 2-0 in the No. 1 singles slot last week. On Friday, she helped the Pirates to a win over Binghamton with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lara Kaplan, as well as a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Monmouth’s Nicole Gasser on Saturday. Gumerova is now 4-2 in the top singles slot this spring, with wins coming in each of her last four appearances.
 
BIG EAST Male Doubles Team of the Week
Casey Ross (Sr., Denver, Colo.) and Matthew Lanahan (So., Chula Vista, Calif.), Creighton
Casey Ross and Matthew Lanahan recorded two wins in the No. 1 doubles spot for the Bluejays. The pair earned a 6-1 win on Friday afternoon against UIC, before batting to a 7-5 victory over Chicago State on Saturday. Ross and Lanahan have now won each of their last three doubles matches.
 
BIG EAST Female Doubles Team of the Week
Arina Gumerova (Jr., Ufa, Russia) and Arabella Moen (Fr., Potters Bay, England), Seton Hall
Arina Gumerova and Arabella Moen went 2-0 in No. 1 doubles this weekend, losing just one combined game. The duo earned a 6-0 win against Binghamton on Friday before recording a 6-1 win on Saturday over Monmouth, both of which were Pirate team victories. Since becoming a doubles pairing on Jan. 30, Gumerova and Moen have won five of their six appearances together.
