St. John’s Sweeps BIG EAST Men’s Tennis Major Awards

NEW YORK – Led by unanimous BIG EAST Player of the Year, Radomir Tomic, St. John’s swept the 2026 BIG EAST men’s tennis major awards, as announced by the league on Thursday. David Petrovic was named the unanimous BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, while the Red Storm coaching staff, led by head coach Dillon Pottish, was recognized as the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year.

In addition to the major awards, the BIG EAST also announced a six-person All-BIG EAST First Team and a six-person All-BIG EAST Second Team.

Major awards and All-BIG EAST Teams were selected by a vote of the league’s head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for themselves or their own players.

Tomic was joined on the All-BIG EAST First Team by teammate Semen Agynskyy, Creighton’s Yuma Daijima, DePaul’s Alejandro Gandini and Sebastian Medica, and Xavier’s Nicholas Herdoiza. All were unanimous selections.

The Second Team consisted of unanimous selections Petrovic and Butler’s Riccardo Baldi, as well as Creighton’s Kirtan Patel, Georgetown’s James O’Sullivan, Marquette’s Blake Roegner, and Xavier’s Alex Kotarski.

Gandini is a four-time All-BIG EAST selection. Roegner earned his third league honor while Daijima picked up his second.

Competing primarily at No. 1 singles, Tomic owned a 16-4 overall record while going undefeated in conference competition (6-0). In doubles play, the junior went 13-3 overall with a 5-3 record on the top tandem court and 7-0 mark at No. 2. During the 2026 BIG EAST Championship, Tomic defeated DePaul’s Gandini and Villanova’s Gordon in straight sets while going 3-0 on the top doubles court with teammate Danilo Raicevic.

Petrovic played exclusively at No. 1 and No. 2 singles during his first collegiate campaign, owning a 9-11 overall record (#1, 1-3; #1, 8-8). He notched conference victories over Baldi (Butler) and J. O’Sullivan (Georgetown). In doubles play, he combined for a 16-5 record (#2, 4-0; #3, 12-4).

Pottish, assistant coaches Carlos Maldonado and Brenden Volk, and team manager Mario Roldan, led the Red Storm to a 19-6 overall record and undefeated 5-0 mark in BIG EAST play. Of the team’s six non-conference losses, five came at the hands of eventual NCAA Tournament qualifiers.

The Red Storm secured their ninth overall BIG EAST Championship title earlier this month, marking the fourth conference crown under Pottish’s direction. As a result, St. John’s earned the league’s automatic bid to the 2026 NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament and will face Columbia in the first round on Friday (May 1, 12 p.m. ET).

The Red Storm have been recognized as the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year in three of the previous four seasons. They are the first program to sweep the men’s tennis major awards since 2022 (DePaul).
