Xavier Takes Third Straight Women’s Golf Title

Creighton’s Lemke Wins NCAA Automatic Qualifier in Playoff

Pine Mountain, Ga. – Xavier placed three golfers among the top seven finishers, including two co-medalists, in capturing its third straight BIG EAST Women’s Golf Championship at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga. The Musketeers posted a team score 876 (+14). They earn the BIG EAST’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
 
Xavier is the first team to win three straight Championship titles since Seton Hall did it in 2014-16.
 
Creighton freshman Katherine Lemke earned the BIG EAST’s individual automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championship. She won a playoff against Xavier’s Emma McMyler and Abby Kiefer.  Lemke birdied the first hole of the playoff while McMyler and Kiefer made par.
 
Lemke, McMyler and Kiefer all shared the first-round lead after carding a 3-under 69. Lemke held a two-stroke edge going into the final round before shooting a 73 in the final round while McMyler and Kiefer shot 71. Lemke is the first freshman to earn medalist honors since Georgetown’s Jacquelyn Eleey in 2015.
 
Xavier’s freshman Kara Carter was the third Musketeer in the top 10. She registered a 7-over 223 (75-71-77) and tied for seventh.
 
Georgetown was the runner-up in the team standings with a 54-hole score of 892 (+28). Megan Gormley finished fourth overall with a 2-under 214 (72-69-73). Esther Park and Kaitlyn Lees tied for the 10th with a 10-over 226.
 
Seton Hall moved up a spot in the third round to take third place, finishing with a team score of 919 (+55). Senior Sarah Fouratt tied for seventh with a 7-over 223 (74-76-73). After a 72 in the third round, graduate student Margot Bechadergue finished ninth with an 8-over 224 (74-78-72).
 
Creighton finished fourth, one stroke behind Seton Hall. After Lemke, the top Bluejay performers were Katie Berrian, who tied for 15th at 14-over 230, and Eleanor Hudepohl, who took 18th at 15-over 231.
For the second straight year, Butler finished fifth. Graduate student Ally Ross took fifth place overall with a 2-over 218. Ross was consistent, shooting 72, 73 and 73.
 
St. John’s placed sixth. Senior Jessie Kweon, after shooting 72 in each of the first two rounds, shot 75 in the final round for a 3-over 219.
