NEW YORK – Xavier sophomore Emma McMyler has been named BIG EAST Player of the Year in women’s golf. Creighton’s Katherine Lemke has been selected BIG EAST Freshman of the Year. McMyler and Lemke also are included in a seven-member All-BIG EAST Team. The selections were made by the league’s head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
The Xavier and Creighton coaching staffs share BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Breanna Jenco is the head coach at Xavier and Debbie Conry leads Creighton. Both staffs are headed to the NCAA Championship Regional in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Musketeers recently won their third straight BIG EAST Championship to earn the league’s automatic NCAA bid. Lemke grabbed the conference’s automatic individual qualifier when she won a playoff hole after finishing as a co-medalist with McMyler and Xavier’s Abby Kiefer in the BIG EAST Championship.
In addition to McMyler and Lemke, the All-BIG EAST Team includes: Ally Ross of Butler, Megan Gormley of Georgetown, Jessie Kweon of St. John’s, Margot Bechadergue of Seton Hall and Kara Carter of Xavier.
