Xavier's Adams, Georgetown's Smith Take Final Weekly Golf Honors

NEW YORK – Xavier freshman AJ Adams has been named BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week and Georgetown freshman Morgan Smith has repeated as BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week in the final week of fall season honors. Adams was the medalist at the Xavier Invitational while Smith turned in a strong performance at the St. Andrews Links Collegiate in Scotland.
 
BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week

Adams captured medalist honors (playing as an individual) at the Xavier Invitational held at Maketewah Country Club. He is the first Musketeer to win a tournament since Garrett Wood won the 2019 BIG EAST Championship. Adams finished with a 4-under 206 (67-70-69). Xavier finished second in the team standings, the highest team finish since the 2016 BIG EAST Championship. 
 
BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Morgan Smith, Georgetown, Fr.  
Smith was the leader for the Hoyas at the St. Andrews Links Collegiate in Scotland. In the first two days of action, Smith shot an even-par 72 followed by a 7-over 79 that placed her in a tie for 11th at 151. For the 36 holes, she made 21 pars and seven birdies. The final day was medal match play and Smith defeated her Notre Dame opponent by two strokes, carding a 6-over 78.  

Men’s Notes
Marquette held off eight-time defending Big Ten champion Illinois while winning the Dayton Flyer Invitational at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio. MU had all five golfers fire rounds of par or better. Grad student Josh Robinson led the charge and finished in a tie for second with a 6-under 207 (66-70-71). The team victory is Marquette’s first since the BIG EAST Championship this past spring…Villanova took third place at the Nassau Invitational in New York. The Wildcats shot a combined 34-over, eight strokes behind runner-up Rhode Island. Ryan Pamer shot 4-over in the final round and tied for third place…St. John’s and Butler also competed at the Xavier Invitational. The Red Storm finished fifth with a team score of 883 (+43). Thomas Finn shot 9-over 219 (74-74-71), one stroke ahead of teammate Peicheng Chen at 220 (69-76-75) who tied for 24th. Butler was seventh at 886 (+46). Will Horne led the Bulldogs with an 8-over 218 (72-73-73)…Georgetown played in a three-day, three-round event at the St. Andrew’s Links Collegiate. The Hoyas lost to Notre Dame in the Consolation Medal match 4-2. Conner Willett carded a 74 on the final day, losing by one stroke. Barnes Blake and Jacob Finard won their matches. Each shot 75…Seton Hall placed 10th in a highly-competitive 18-team field at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate. The Hall finished the three-day event at 12-over 876 (291-288-297). Grad student Wenliang Xie tied for 12th among 96 golfers with a 1-under 215 (73-69-73).
 
Women’s Notes
Xavier wrapped up its fall season at The Southern. The tournament was hosted by Georgia Southern at the Savannah Golf Club. The Musketeers tied for sixth place with a 54-hole score of 906 (+42). Erin Kim, Madison Reemsnyder and Darrelyn Webster all tied for sixth at 7-over 223…St. John’s and Seton Hall competed in the Battle at the Beach in Rehoboth Beach, Del. The Red Storm were led by sophomore Xuan Minh Doan, who took 15th with an 8-over 224 (78-75-71). The Pirates were paced by freshman Renee Rane who shot 16-over 232 (76-78-78) and tied for 29th. In the team standings. St. John’s was ninth and Seton Hall finished 11th.
