UConn, Villanova Share #BIGEASTtrack Weekly Awards

BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Terrel Williams, Connecticut, Jr., Hurdles
Williams ran a personal record and broke the UConn indoor record with a time of 7.71 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles at the Harvard Crimson Elite over the weekend. In addition to breaking those two records, the junior hurdler now ranks at the top of the conference this indoor season in the 60-meter hurdles and owns the 12th best time in the nation.

BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Malik Cunningham, Villanova, Sr., Jumps
At the Scarlet Knight Open last week, Cunningham made his season debut and took over the BIG EAST lead in the triple jump. The senior jumped 15.27 meters in his first meet since the 2022 outdoor season. Cunningham currently ranks 53rd among all NCAA jumpers in the triple jump.

BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Madison Martinez, Villanova, Sr., Sprints
Martinez posted a personal-best in the 800 meters with a time of 2:03.68. The senior now holds the top time in the conference for the indoor season and currently ranks 11th in the NCAA for the event. Her time is also third in Villanova indoor track history and 10th in both Villanova indoor and outdoor track history.

BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Kali Knott, Connecticut, So., Pole Vault
At the Harvard Crimson Elite over the weekend, Knott finished second in the pole vault with a jump of 3.91 meters. Her jump is the best in the BIG EAST so far this indoor season and ranks #2 all-time in UConn history. Knott also currently ranks 111th among all NCAA pole vaulters.

Notable Performances
  • Butler’s Angelina Ellis ran a 4:36.06 mile over the weekend, which was the best in the BIG EAST last week and second-best this season; Her time also ranks 24th in the nation
  • UConn’s Joseph O’Brien clocked in a 21.23 in the 200 meters last week for the best time in the conference and 72nd time in the NCAA; O’Brien also ran the 60 meters in 6.79 seconds, which is the best in the conference this season
  • DePaul’s Darius Brown posted a time of 7.88 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, which ranked second in the league last week and ranks third this season; This time also ranks 51st in the country
  • DePaul’s Olivia Borowiak set a personal record in the 3000 meters last week with a time of 9:20.08, which ranks second in the BIG EAST this season and 58th in the NCAA
  • St. John’s Tatyana McKenzie finished the 200 meters in 24.00 seconds for the best time in the conference this indoor season
