BIG EAST Men’s Singles Player of the Week
Diogo Marques, Gr., St. John’s (Setubal, Portugal)
Marques earns BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week accolades after claiming two victories from the top spot this weekend. On Friday, the graduate student defeated Georgetown’s Kieran Foster in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) while St. John’s bested the BIG EAST rival, 5-2. Sunday, Marques came away with a hard victory over Brown’s Niraj Kometineni [7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-1] in yet another 5-2 outing for the Red Storm.
BIG EAST Men’s Doubles Team of the Week
Thomas Brennan (Sr., Dublin Ireland) & Alvaro Huete Vadillo (Sr., Illescas, Spain), Butler
Playing from the No. 1 position, Brennan and Huete Vadillo defeated Purdue’s Michal Woziak and Milledge Cossu, 6-1. The Bulldogs took the doubles’ point from the Boilermakers in a hard fought in-state matcup. Brennan and Huete Vadullo last collected BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week accolades exactly one month ago (Feb. 27).
BIG EAST Women’s Singles Player of the Week
Natalie Boesing, Jr., Butler (New Albany, Ind.)
Boesing excelled from the top singles spot this weekend, earning three wins in straight sets as Butler collected a trio of victories. The junior bested IUPUI’s Meghan Bernard (6-0, 6-1) and Bellarmine’s Ekaterina Tikhonko (6-1, 6-0) while the Bulldogs dominated Friday’s doubleheader (6-1 vs. IUPUI, 7-0 vs. BU). In Saturday’s 7-0 shutout victory at Saint Louis, Boesing bested the Billiken’s Elizabeth Mintusova 7-5, 7-5. On the weekend, Butler boasted an 18-0 singles record.
BIG EAST Women’s Doubles Team of the Week
Mouna Bouzgarrou (R.S. Sr., Monastir, Tunisia) & Emilie Haakansson (Gr., Hellerup, Denmark), St. John’s
Bouzgarrou and Haakansson went 2-0 on the week, defeating a pair of conference opponents as St. John’s took the doubles’ point from both UConn and Georgetown. Playing from the top doubles spot on Friday, the duo defeated UConn’s Olivia Wright and Maria Constantinou, 7-5. In the second spot on Sunday, the pair overcame Hoyas Olivia Ashton and Morgan Coburn, 6-3.
