Lemke, Kweon, McMyler Share Women’s Golf Honors; Villanova’s Weaver Earns Men’s Honors

NEW YORK – In an extremely successful week in BIG EAST women’s golf, three individuals captured medalist honors with two others placing second. Also, three women’s squads won team titles with two finishing as runners-up. The three individual medalists – Creighton’s Katherine Lemke, St. John’s Jessie Kweon and Xavier’s Emma McMyler -- have been named BIG EAST Female Golfers of the Week. On the men’s side, Villanova’s Peter Weaver grabbed medalist honors and helped the Wildcats to the team title at the Wildcat Spring Invitational to earn BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week accolades.
 
BIG EAST Female Golfers of the Week
Katherine Lemke, Creighton, So. – Lemke took home medalist honors for the third time in her career with a one-shot win at the Stampede at the Creek, which also led the Bluejays to a team title. She fired rounds of 73, 72 and 74 to pick up her third career victory, and first win since winning a three-way playoff at last year's BIG EAST Championship. Lemke owned a tournament-high 11 birdies in the 54-hole event.
Jessie Kweon, St. John’s, Gr. – Kweon earned medalist honors at the St. John’s Invitational at the Saint Andrew’s Golf Course. She shot a 3-under 139 for the 36-hole event, five strokes ahead of the field. Kweon was the first Red Storm medalist at a home tournament since former teammate Linda Wang won in 2016.
Emma McMyler, Xavier, Jr. – McMyler won the Chattanooga Classic, recording a 54-hole score of 9-under 207 (69-67-71) while winning her third tournament during the 2022-23 year. McMyler also helped Xavier post a runner-up team finish. Xavier has finished fifth or better in all eight tournaments in 2022-23, including two tournament wins this season to go along with two runner-up finishes.
 
BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week
Peter Weaver, Villanova, Jr. – Weaver captured Villanova’s first medalist honors this season with a first-place finish at the Wildcat Spring Invitational. The VU team captain was six strokes better than the runner-up shooting a 9-under at the 36-hole event. Weaver made nine birdies and an eagle to lead Villanova to back-to-back team titles for the first time in program history. The junior shot a career-best 65 in the second round.
 
Women’s Notes Seton Hall edged host St. John’s by two strokes to take the team title at the St. John’s Invitational. Junior Ludovica Busetto led the Pirates with a second-place finish, carding a 2-over 144 (72-72). It was her second career top-5 finish and her third top-10. For the Pirates, it was their first team title since winning the Princeton Invitational in 2019 and the program’s 17th all-time…Georgetown shot 3-over as a team in the final round (299-305-291) and won the Lady Bison Invitational at 31-over 895. Junior Megan Gormley tied for second place by carding a 4-over 220 (74-72-74). She tallied a squad-best nine birdies for the tournament, which tied for second-best among the field. It marked the first team tournament win for the Blue & Gray since the 2019 Hoya Invitational. Georgetown was tied for the lead in pars (154) and led the field with 35 birdies…Butler posted a third-place finish at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational hosted by Bowling Green. Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs took eighth place at the Colonel Classic hosted by Eastern Kentucky.
 
Men’s Notes – Noah Kolar led DePaul at the Hoosier Intercollegiate with a career-best third-place finish. He carded a personal-best 1-over 214 for the tournament, which included a 70 in the final round. Kolar recorded a total of 10 birdies. It was his first top-10 finish for 2022-23. The Blue Demons placed eighth in the team standings…Butler posted a second-place finish in the Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational on March 27-28, then placed ninth at the Hoosier Intercollegiate. Freshman Will Horne was the top Bulldog at the Hoosier Intercollegiate, tying for 14th at 223 (+10). Horne tied for 18th at the Benbow Invitational, finishing with a 3-over 213…Seton Hall and Georgetown competed in the Princeton Invitational. The Hall’s George Fricker tied for 10th with a 3-under 210 (67-68-75). His 67 in the first round matches his career low while posting his third career sub-par tournament and third top-10 finish. Georgetown’s David Rogers tied for 18th after carding rounds of 71, 68 and 74 for a 213. The Pirates finished fifth in a 14-team field and the Hoyas tied for eighth…St. John’s also competed in the Wildcat Spring Invitational. The Red Storm finished fifth led by grad student Tyler Gerbavsits who took seventh with an even-par 142 (72-70). In the previous week, Peicheng Chen won the individual title at the Southern Invitational in Palm Beach, Fla., with a 10-under over 54 holes, which included a 68 in the final round…Marquette’s Nicolas Evangelio posted a 54-hole career-low 11-under 205 at the Tiger Collegiate Invitational in Columbia, Mo. He opened up the tournament with a 4-under par 68 and followed it with a season-best 7-under 65 in the second round. He shot an even-par 72 to finish at 11-under and tie for sixth place, his fifth top-10 finish of the season. Bhoom Sima-Aree tied for 12th with a career-low 8-under 208. He posted a career-best 6-under 66 in the opening round.  After an even-par second round, he closed out with a 2-under 70 on the final day. Marquette finished fourth in a 14-team field that included top-25 squads Illinois and Kansas State.
