UConn Wins #BIGEASTbase Regular-Season Title; Bracket Set For Memorial Day Weekend At Prasco Park

NEW YORK  – The seeds have been set for the 2023 BIG EAST Baseball Championship Presented by JEEP, which will take place Wednesday, May 24 through Saturday, May 27 in Mason, Ohio at Prasco Park.
 
UConn retains the No. 1 seed in the championship, finishing at 15-5 after taking the final two games of its series against Creighton to claim the series in Omaha. It is the Huskies third straight season winning the BIG EAST regular season crown.
 
UConn will play Georgetown, the tournament’s No. 4 seed in the championship. The Hoyas earned their bid, winning the final two games of their series against Xavier to wrap up the season 10-10. Needing a win on Saturday, the Hoyas held on to defeat the Musketeers 6-5 and secure the final spot in the tournament. Tournament co-host Xavier received the No. 2 seed in the tournament with a 14-7 record. The Musketeers will face No. 3 seed Seton Hall, which is back in the tournament after missing out last year for the first time since 2011. The Pirates finished 13-8 after a 3-0 weekend against Villanova.
 
The format of the tournament is double elimination. Every game of the championship will be carried on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports. Game 1 on Wednesday between No. 1 UConn and No. 4 Georgetown and will start at 2:30 p.m. ET. Game 2 between No. 2 Xavier and No. 3 Seton Hall will start at approximately 6:30 p.m.
 
The BEDN talent grid for the games includes John Fanta, Mike Schmaltz, Paul Fritschner and Ana Bellinghausen.

The winner of the tournament receives the league’s automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Championship.
UConn is the defending champion.
 
Creighton finished in fifth in the league standings at 10-11. St. John’s finished league play in sixth at 8-12, capping the year with a series sweep over Butler. Villanova finished up 7-13, while Butler finished 5-16 under first year head coach Blake Beemer.
