NEW YORK (September 14, 2023) – The BIG EAST men’s soccer season continues Friday with the start of BIG EAST play, as all 12 teams are set to hit the pitch starting with Butler at Villanova at 3 p.m. ET. All six games will stream live on the BIG EAST Digital Network Presented by Invesco QQQ on FloSports.
Through non-conference action a third of the league is represented in the United Soccer Coaches poll, with third-ranked Akron leading the way. With an unblemished 6-0-0 mark, Marquette skyrocketed to No. 13 in Tuesday’s rankings, while Georgetown and Seton Hall are each receiving votes. In the Top-Drawer Soccer rankings, the Zips sit at No. 5 nationally, followed by the 17th-ranked Hoyas and 23rd-ranked Golden Eagles.
Following Butler (0-3-1) and Villanova (0-2-2) at 3 p.m., four matches are scheduled to kickoff simultaneously at 7 p.m.
In a battle of a pair of teams receiving votes in the national rankings, Seton Hall (3-1-1) is set to host Georgetown (2-1-1) at Owen T. Carroll Field in South Orange, N.J. Meanwhile, Connecticut (3-2-0) welcomes St. John’s (4-1-1) to Joseph J. Morrone Stadium at Rizza Performance Center in Storrs, Conn.
In an interdivisional matchup, the third-ranked Zips (5-0-1) kickstart their BIG EAST history hosting Providence (2-3-0) in Ohio at FirstEnergy Stadium. Also in Ohio, Xavier (2-2-1) takes on DePaul (1-2-2) at Corcoran Field in Cincinnati.
In Friday’s late game, No. 13 Marquette (6-0-0), the nation’s third highest scoring team with 3.17 goals per game, travels to Omaha, Neb., to face off against Creighton (1-3-2), the BIG EAST Midwest Division Preseason Favorite. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. at Morrison Stadium.

Friday kickstarts an eight-match conference season, after the league expanded to 12 teams and two divisions prior to the start of the 2023 campaign with the addition of The University of Akron to the BIG EAST as an affiliate member. The BIG EAST men’s soccer championship Presented by JEEP will also be expanded to eight teams for the first time since realignment.
The East Division consists of Connecticut, Georgetown, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall and Villanova. The Midwest Division includes Akron, Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Marquette and Xavier.
Following the conclusion of league play on Saturday, Oct. 28 the tournament field will be set with the squad with the highest overall conference points securing the No. 1 seed, along with the team in the opposite division with the highest conference point total locking up the No. 2 seed. The remaining six seeds, regardless of division, will be determined by conference points. Quarterfinal action will get underway on Saturday, Nov. 4, with the top four seeds hosting matches.
The semifinals will return to the Maryland SoccerPlex on Thursday, Nov. 9. FOX Sports will then cover the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 12; network and start time will be announced at a later date.
