ROME, Ga. - Xavier women's tennis doubles team Clara Owen
and Abby Nugent qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships after earning a spot in the finals of the ITA Conference Masters Championships over the weekend.
The pair opened the weekend with a 7-5, 6-4, over Kolarevic and Nguyen from Fordham and moved on to the Quarterfinals with a 6-4, 1-6, 10-4 win over Rivera and Caceres from ETSU.
In the quarterfinals, Owen and Nugent took a 6-4, 6-1 win over South Carolina State's Chursina and Semlali to move on to the Semis, where they took a come-back 2-6, 6-2, 10-4 win over Mohr and Webster of Vanderbilt to earn a spot in the finals, clinching a bid to the NCAA Individual Championships.
In the finals, the pair fell 6-3, 6-1 to Dada-Mascoll and Romanichen of Appalachian State.
The pair now move on to compete at the the NCAA Championships in Waco, Texas, running Nov. 19-24 at Baylor University. The brackets will be announced on Saturday, Nov. 16.
Madeleine Rexroat also took part in the ITA Confence Masters Championships, competing in singles. She led 6-3, 4-6, 4-2 in the opening round when it was retired duo to her opponent, Noelia Lorca of Tarleton State, bein
g injured to advance to the round of 16. She fell, 6-3, 6-4, to Cal's Katja Wiesholm.
