UConn, DePaul, St. John’s, Xavier Advance to 2026 BIG EAST Women’s Tennis Semifinals

CAYCE, S.C. – UConn, DePaul, St. John’s, and Xavier picked up wins in the quarterfinals of the 2026 BIG EAST Women’s Tennis Championship to advance to Saturday’s semifinals at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center. Matches will begin at 1 p.m. ET, following the men’s semifinals scheduled for 9 a.m.

#1 Xavier, 4, #9 Seton Hall, 0
The five-time reigning champions opened tournament play with a 4-0 victory over Seton Hall and will face UConn in the semifinals. The Musketeers picked up the doubles point behind victories from Abby Nugent and Clara Owen on the top court (def. Niamh Campbell/Anastasia Sereda, 6-2), as well Ellasyn Deford and Madeleine Rexroat on the second (def. Isabelle May/Kira Farrakhova, 6-3).

In singles competition, Xavier delivered a trio of dominant straight-set victories. Nugent defeated Farrakhova at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-2). Deford defeated May at No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-3). Owen overcame Rachel Benoualid at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-0).

#2 DePaul, 4, #7 Creighton, 0
DePaul defeated Creighton, 4-0, to advance to Sunday’s semifinals where they will face St. John’s. Hannah Smith and Clara Nilsson were victorious at No. 1 doubles, defeating Ana Paula Martinez and Sophie Schwartz, 6-3. Eleanor Cochran and Sasha Stula won on the second court (def. Annika Elvestrom/Alem Cote, 6-4) while Helin Alvarez and Roberta Sechi added a win on the third (def. Olivia Minikel/Teresa Tran, 6-4).

Smith contributed a straight set victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Martinez, 6-2, 6-2. Yasemin Pehlivan added a win at No. 3 singles, overcoming Tran, 6-1, 6-1, while Clara Nilsson overcame Cote at No. 5 (6-3, 6-1)

#3 St. John’s, 4, #6 Villanova, 1
St. John’s surpassed Villanova, 4-1, to punch their ticket to the semifinals where they will meet DePaul. The Red Storm picked up the tandem point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Alicia Gomez and Abi Redman were victorious on the top court, defeating Emily Callahan and Maggie Gehrig, 6-0. Noemi Babikova and Victoria Papadopoulou contributed a win on the second court (def. Lauren Monti/Jenna Stevens, 6-4).

Charlotta Buss registered the Red Storm’s first singles victory, surpassing Alina Kornyeva, 6-3, 6-1, on the fifth court. Villanova answered on the third court behind a 6-2, 6-1 victory from Miriam Gondorova (def. Kojima, 6-2, 6-1), however, St. John’s extended their lead with a win from Babikova at No. 2 (def. Maggie Gehrig, 6-0, 6-3). Abi Redman clinched the match on the sixth court, defeating Lauren Monti, 7-6 (6), 6-3.

#4 Georgetown, 2, #5 UConn, 4
UConn held off Georgetown, 4-2, and will meet Xavier in the tournament’s penultimate match. The Huskies picked up the doubles point behind victories on the first and second court. The top tandem team of Chloe Lomans and Ela Platenikova overcame Ashley Kennedy and Paige Gilbert, 6-4. The second doubles duo, Victoria Matos and Madison McLeod, defeated Ruhika Bhat and Liya Chu, 6-4.

Victoria Matos extended UConn’s lead at No. 4 singles, defeating Kennedy, 6-3, 6-2. Georgetown’s Emily Novikov answered on the top singles court, surpassing Platenikova, 6-4, 6-0. Fellow Hoya Chu then leveled the score, 2-2, with a straight set victory over Lomans on the second court (6-4, 6-2).

UConn answered at No. 6 singles with a win from Isabella Asenov over Gilbert, 6-4, 6-4. Cameron Didion clinched the match at No. 3 singles, coming from behind to defeat Katie Garofolo-Ro, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
