#BIGEASTwbb Weekly Honors (12.23.24) UConn’s Strong Sweep Weekly Awards

NEW YORK – UConn freshman forward Sarah Strong averaged 25.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals in a 1-1 week to sweep this week’s BIG EAST Women’s Basketball awards, announced on Monday. This is the second time this season Strong was named both player and freshman of the week.

Creighton senior forward Morgan Maly, DePaul junior guard Taylor Johnson-Matthews, Marquette senior guard Lee Volker, graduate student guard Faith Masonius and Villanova freshman guard Jasmine Bascoe named to this week’s honor roll.

Sarah Strong, UConn, Fr., F

Strong averaged 25.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals in a 1-1 week against Iowa State and USC. In the 101-68 win over Iowa St., the freshman scored a career-high 29 points on 10-for-18 shooting, including a career-best five 3-pointers. Strong added nine boards and four assists to be named the MVP of the game. In the loss to the Trojans, Strong finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the year, to go with five assists and four steals.

Morgan Maly, Creighton, Sr., F

Maly led Creighton with a combined 44 points against Wyoming and #1 UCLA. Versus the Cowgirls, she delivered 29 points on 12-for-15 from the field. She then led Creighton with 15 against the Bruins.

Taylor Johnson-Matthews, DePaul, Jr., G
Johnson-Matthews averaged a team-best 19.5 points while shooting 56-percent from the field, 58-percent from three and grabbing 3.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week over Southern and Butler.

Lee Volker, Marquette, Sr., G
Volker averaged 13.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 steals in the 64-63 loss to Bowling Green and 87-42 win versus Stonehill.

Faith Masonius, Seton Hall, Gr., G
Masonius scored a career-high 29 points on 10-for-22 shooting, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc versus LSU. Against Providence in Seton Hall’s BIG EAST opener, she had 18 points to go with five rebounds and five steals.

Jasmine Bascoe, Villanova, Fr., G
Bascoe netted a game-high 24 points on 10-for-12 shooting from the field as Villanova defeated St. John’s, 71-57. She added six rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win.
