BIG EAST Player of the Week
Maranda Runco, So., P/1B, Villanova
Runco led the BIG EAST with a .583 batting average in the opening week of competition, going 7-for-12 at the Aggie Classic. The sophomore contributed six RBI, three runs, one double, and one home run for 11 total bases while slugging .917. Runco launched a pinch-hit grand slam against Purdue, registered an RBI single against No. 19 Baylor, and picked up two hits and one double versus No. 7 Texas A&M.
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Kelsey Carr, Gr., P/INF, Seton Hall
Carr owned a 1.08 ERA over 13 innings of work, picking up a pair of victories at the Louisiana Classic. The 2023 BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year threw a complete game in the Pirates first outing of the year, holding Louisiana to one earned run in the 4-2 victory. Carr then tossed six innings in a 5-3 victory over Longwood, striking out four while allowing just one earned run. Off the mound, the dual threat pitcher contributed a homerun and three RBI against the Lancers.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Dani Koo, Fr., OF, Georgetown
Koo started all five games for the Hoyas, averaging .316 batting with six hits, five runs, three RBI, two home runs, and a double. Down 0-2 against Bellarmine, the rookie registered her first collegiate homer, sending a pair of runs across the plate to level the score. Georgetown would go on to win the game 8-4. She delivered her second career home run the following game, a 15-7 victory over Charleston Southern.
Honor Roll
Makena Alexander, So., INF, Butler
Alexander was dominant in the Bulldogs opening week, delivering four home runs, 12 RBI, five runs, and a pair of walks as Butler went 4-1 at the Rosemont Dome Tournament.
Grace Jenkins, Jr., C, UConn
Jenkins hit .538 in four starts, producing seven hits, seven runs, five RBI, two home runs, and two doubles. Additionally, she was perfect in the field, logging 18 putouts.
Sydra Seville, Sr., OF, Creighton
Seville batted .445 (8-of-18) with four RBI, four runs, two doubles, two walks, and a home run as the Bluejays registered three victories at the Kickin’ Chicken Classic. In Creighton’s 10-2 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne, the senior became the first ‘Jay since at least 1999 to record a hit in 18 straight games (dating back to last season).
Kelly Greene, Jr., P, DePaul
Green tossed two wins and two losses in five appearances over 22.1 innings of work, owning a 1.61 ERA (4 ER) with nine strikeouts and nine walks.
Andrea Perez, Jr., INF, Seton Hall
Perez hit .500 in four starts, contributing five hits, two walks, an RBI, and a steal as Seton Hall went 2-2 at the Louisiana Classic.
