Creighton, Georgetown, St. John’s Win Latest #BETennis Weekly Awards

BIG EAST Women’s Singles Player of the Week
Emily Novikov, So., Georgetown (Campbell, California)
Novikov defeated ITA No. 61 Maryia Hrynashka of the University of Delaware in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) while competing at No. 1 singles.

BIG EAST Women’s Doubles Team of the Week
Noemi Babikova (So., Boldog, Slovakia) & Alicia Gomez (Sr., Onda, Spain), St. John’s
Babikova and Gomez went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles, helping the Red Storm to a pair of victories over Seton Hall and Hofstra. The duo shut out Pirates Paige Wise and Rachel Benoulaid, 6-0, before defeating Hofstra’s Amanda Kadiri and Deniz Soyer, 6-2.

BIG EAST Men’s Singles Player of the Week
Alejandro Gandini, Sr., Creighton (Santiago, Dominican Republic)
Gandini earned a pair of victories at No. 1 singles, helping the Bluejays to team victories over BIG EAST rivals DePaul and Georgetown. The senior overcame Blue Demon Matteo Iaquinto in straight sets (6-2, 7-6) as Creighton defeated the reigning BIG EAST Champions, 6-1. Gandini then provided an essential win in the Bluejays 4-3 victory over Georgetown on Saturday, defeating the reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year, Jake Fellows, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.

BIG EAST Men’s Doubles Team of the Week
Alejandro Gandini (Sr., Santiago, Dominican Republic) & Yuma Daijima (Jr., Tokyo, Japan), Creighton
Gandini and Daijimia teamed up to post a perfect 3-0 doubles record while guiding the Bluejays to a 2-1 record this week. Playing at No. 3 doubles, the pair overcame Cal Poly’s Sean Ferguson and Aaron Eliscu to clinch the doubles point on Tuesday. In BIG EAST competition, the duo defeated DePaul’s Elias Anwar and Thomas Giles, 6-4, and Georgetown’s Akira Morganstern and Adhvyte Sharma, 6-2. Both conference victories came at No. 2 doubles and improved the pair’s mark to 10-1 in tandem play.
