Marquette Streaks To Second-Round MGOLF Lead

UConn's Heard Shoots 66 To Take Individual Lead

– Marquette is the team leader after the second round of the BIG EAST Men’s Golf Championship presented by JEEP. UConn’s Alex Heard took over the individual lead after firing the low round of the day, a 6-under 66.

The BIG EAST Championship is being played at Callawassie Golf Club. The final round will be played Monday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET. The winning team and the individual medalist will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
Marquette notched the best team score of the day, collectively shooting a 280. The Golden Eagles own a two-day total of 11-under 565. Xavier is in second place, five strokes behind Marquette at 570 (-6). Butler, the co-leader with Marquette after the first round, is in third place, 10 strokes behind Marquette at 575 (-1).

The middle of the team leaderboard is tight. Fourth-place Creighton (579, +3) is one stroke ahead of fifth-place UConn (580, +4) and two strokes ahead of sixth-place Georgetown (581, +5). Villanova is in seventh (583, +7). Seton Hall (585, +9) is eighth, two strokes behind Villanova followed by DePaul (589, +13) and St. John’s (592, +16).

UConn’s Heard shot a 32 on the front nine, which included five birdies, en route to his 66. He began the day in 10th place. Heard enters the final round with a seven-under 137. He is two strokes ahead of Georgetown’s Barnes Blake, who shot a 1-under 71 and stands at 5-under 139. Johan Widal is Marquette’s top performer after two rounds. He is in third place at 140 (-4), three shots off the pace. A three-way tie for fourth place at 141 (-3) includes Seton Hall’s George Fricker, Creighton’s Grant Feldman and Xavier’s Carson Bellish.
