BIG EAST Women’s Singles Player of the Week
Maggie Gehrig, Jr., Villanova (Charlotte, N.C.)
Gehrig went 2-0 in No. 3 singles against conference opponents this week, helping the Wildcats to two team wins. The junior beat Eleanor Nobbs of DePaul 6-2, 6-4, helping her team win 5-2 against the Blue Demons. She then went on to defeat Victoria Matos of UConn in three sets, 7-5, 6-7, 6-2. The Wildcats secured the victory over the Huskies 4-3 in what was UConn’s first conference loss of the season.
BIG EAST Women’s Doubles Team of the Week
Alicia Gomez (Sr., Onda, Spain) & Noemi Babikova, (So., Boldog, Slovakia), St. John’s
The duo beat Georgetown’s Ashley Kennedy and Katie Garofolo-Ro on the No. 1 doubles court 6-1, helping the Johnnies take the team point and defeat the Hoyas 4-3. St. John’s remains undefeated in conference play with a 5-0 record.
BIG EAST Men’s Singles Player of the Week
Patrick Joss, Sr., Butler (Wellington, New Zealand)
Joss went 2-0 in No. 1 singles against conference opponents this weekend. He beat DePaul’s Pablo Torress Almeida 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, helping the Dawgs to a 5-2 win. He then went on to beat Georgetown’s Arthur O’Sullivan in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. The Dawgs beat the Hoyas 4-3.
BIG EAST Men’s Doubles Team of the Week
Carl Gustavsson (Sr., Stockholm, Sweden) & Danilo Raicevic (Jr. Podgorica, Montenegro), St. John’s
With doubles play tied 1-1 against Drexel, the duo secured a 6-4 win over Will Burridge and Hussein El Tawil on the No. 2 court to clinch the team point for the Johnnies. St. John's defeated the Dragons, 4-2, for its fourth straight win.
