BIG EAST Player of the Week
Rhett Chambers, Providence, Jr., A (Larchmont, N.Y.)
Chambers led the Friars’ high-octane offense to a pair of victories to kick off the season, totaling 15 points against Holy Cross and Bryant. In the season opener against Holy Cross on Jan. 31, Chambers scored four goals and dished out two assists in a 15-10 win. On Friday, he added four more goals and collected five assists in a 16-11 victory over Bryant.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Grayson Manning, Denver, So., G (Victoria, B.C.)
Opening the season 2-0 with wins over Cleveland State and Air Force, Manning acted as a brick wall giving up just two goals during his time on the field. In 40 minutes of action of a 20-1 win over Cleveland State on Jan. 31, the sophomore goalkeeper stopped all seven shots he faced. On Saturday, he led Denver to a 10-2 win with 14 saves, the second most saves in his young career. Overall, he stopped 21 shots and registered a .913 save percentage in the pair of victories.
BIG EAST Specialist of the Week
Ian Olenik, Providence, Sr., LSM (Windham, N.H.)
Olenik dished out three assists, collected eight ground balls and caused 7 turnovers in a pair of victories for the Friars. In a win over Holy Cross, he collected two assists in the victory and caused a turnover. On Friday against Bryant, he set career-highs with five ground balls and six caused turnovers, while also dishing out an assist.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Kessy Cox, Villanova, Fr., M (Radnor, Pa.)
Cox struck for a pair of goals in his collegiate debut, getting three of his four shots on goal as Villanova topped seventh-ranked Penn State on the road. The freshman earned the start out of the midfield and pitched in two pivotal second half goals, including an unassisted tally with 4:27 remaining to bring the Wildcats back within one score.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Watt Muir, Denver, So., A (Houston, Texas)
Muir netted hat tricks in each of Denver’s two wins to kick off the season, scoring on all three shots against Cleveland State, before tallying three goals on seven shots against Air Force.
Luke Smeader, Denver, Jr., FOS (Batavia, N.Y.)
Smeader combined to go 18-for-28 at the X Spot in the opening two games of the season, picking up seven ground balls.
Cam Sterritt, Providence, R-Fr., G (Brampton, Ontario)
Sterritt collected 31 saves and posted a .593 save percentage in the first two games of the season.
Nick Lucchesi, Villanova, Jr., M (Villanova, Pa.)
Lucchesi led the Wildcats with four points in the road triumph over Penn State, totaling a hat-trick, an assist and three ground balls.
Jake Melchionni, Villanova, Jr., LSM (Bernardsville, N.J.)
Melchionni hoovered up a team-best six ground balls against Penn State, in addition to forcing a pair of turnovers, to lead the Wildcats to a 14-13 overtime victory on the road.
