BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Marco Langon, Villanova, Sr.
Langon opened his outdoor season with a standout performance in the 5000 meters at the Duke Invitational, clocking 13:28.43. His time ranks tenth nationally and second in the East region, while also leading the BIG EAST by more than 12 seconds. The mark is the seventh-fastest outdoor 5000m in Villanova history.
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Anna Gardiner, Providence, So.
Gardiner captured the 5,000-meter at the Friar Invitational, posting a facility record and personal-best time of 15:51.78. Her mark broke a long-standing record at the Ray Treacy Track at Hendricken Field set in 2016 by former Friar and current assistant coach Catarina Rocha (16:07.33) and ranks 27th nationally.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Alex Bernstein, DePaul, Gr.
Bernstein set a new program record in the hammer throw at the South Florida Invitational. The graduate student won the event with a mark of 70.62m, finishing first overall while ranking first in the BIG EAST and eighth nationally.
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jamora Alves, St. John’s, Sr.
Alves claimed the discus title at the South Florida Invitational with a season-best mark of 52.03 meters, finishing nearly six meters ahead of the field. Her performance ranks first in the BIG EAST and 29th in the NCAA East Region.
Notable Performances
- Butler’s Aedan Rendek earned first place in the men’s 1500m at the We Fly Challenge, clocking a winning time of 3:50.10.
- UConn’s Derek Shimer won the high jump at the Duke Invitational, clearing 2.14 meters. His mark ranks seventh all-time in program history, leads the BIG EAST this season, and is tied for 30th nationally.
- Creighton’s Sophia Valentine delivered a program-record javelin performance at the Jim Duncan Invitational, recording a 32.32-meter throw to finish in second place.
- DePaul’s Daniel Fasasi recorded a 46.38 in the 400m to place third at the South Florida Invitational, ranking first in the BIG EAST and 55th nationally.
- Marquette’s Daylee Braden won the women’s 400 meters in 56.73, then anchored the 4x400 relay to a first-place finish in 4:11.79 at the Marquette Invitational.
- Providence’s Tom Breen won the 800-meter at the Friar Invitational on April 10, clocking an outdoor personal-best time of 1:49.74.
- St. John’s Chinenye Onourah captured the 400-meter dash title at the South Florida Invitational, finishing in 53.27 seconds.
